best litter for young kittens
I am preparing for some new kittens we will be getting. They are very young and were born outside to a stray. Anyone know the best kitty litter to get and train them on, that is also reasonably priced? I know no clay... but is there a specific one you recommend?

Re: best litter for young kittens
we use fresh step and have since we got both of our kitties (who were both born and abandoned outside). it works really well at hiding the smell and it clumps great. we usually buy it at costco

I read you shouldn't use clumping litter either for kittens. It said that if they ingest the litter while cleaning themselves it can cause blockage.
We are getting our kitten tonight and going to use pine litter.

I read the same. But then a number of people have said I should use clumping litter. The info out there is confusing!

we tried both clumping and non clumping and the clumping stuff is a thousand times better! unless your kitty is soaking wet and goes into the litter box, the litter will not stick to him enough for him to actually eat a bunch of it when cleaning. it COULD cause a blockage if he ate a bunch of it but the chances of that happening aren't very high...
