I know this sounds nuts, but have you looked at Ikea? Sometimes you CAN find nice things there and they aren't an arm and a leg.
JC Penny's too has good stuff.

honestly, i think it will be nearly impossible to find a well made ET for $600 or less. if you can afford it, i would invest the money in a quality piece that you know will last for years.

Re: Best place to buy a entertainment center?
you may also want to look at cosco or bj's if you are looking to save $$.
DH and i just bought a TV stand for $400 at raymour and flanigan... if we had purchased a full entertainment center we could have gotten something nice for about $1300, but we didn't need a big piece so we opted for the stand only.

Re: Best place to buy a entertainment center?
here are some options, maybe a little bit more than you want to spend but still nice, quality stuff, and you can get a discount if you qualify for their preferred credit card.
hamilton 2 piece entertainment center
cubix 3 piece wall unit
durham park 2 piece
soho 2 piece

Re: Best place to buy a entertainment center?
for $600 you are getting flake, particle board and MDF.. there is no way you'll get solid hard wood for that price.
Like another poster suggested, your better off just saving and getting something more expensive that is quality down the road..
By the time you buy this new piece, factor in the cost of the furn-a-kit piece, and then the possibility of a piece 3 years down the road.. you're better off getting something well made.

another option is bookcases. i am not fan of ECs so i opted for bookcases. 1 low wide, 2 tall narrow. although the total was more than $600, it was definitely cheaper than a higher end EC.Image Attachment(s):

You can try Bob's. A friend of mine furnished pretty much his whole house from there and the quality is great and the prices are even better!
