Best Preschool
Currently my daughter is in daycare/preschool. I don't think it's challenging enough for her. I hate to be one of those parents who says oh my kid is the smartest, prettiest, etc. but she will be four in a few months and she can identify the letters of the alphabet and she knows the sounds they make. She keeps telling me she wants to learn to read, and we read a lot to her, I just don't know if I should put her in a more school like daycare or just let her do her thing.

Re: Best Preschool
Have you considered just placing her in a daycare with a more studious curriculum. There are daycares out there that would challenge your dc.

Re: Best Preschool
We live in NJ and we have our DS in a Montissori school. DS just turned 4 and he can identify a few letters and say their sounds. There are a few kids that are 4 to 4.5 in his class that can read. We are not pushing DS too much but recently he has been saying he wants to learn to read. We do read a lot to him.
I am not sure about the cost in LI but where we live, a Montissori school is comparable to a daycare in cost.

Re: Best Preschool
There's much more to per school than academics.m as a matter of fac that is pretty much secondary. Socialization, learning rules, independence, and learning through play are primary components of a pre school curriculum. I highly doubt you are going to find a pre school where the kids are learning to read....it's not developmentally appropriate at that age. Sight word recognition comes before reading.

Re: Best Preschool
I am not looking for her to read per se, just be more challenged. She is a very outgoing little girl, she talks to everyone and anyone, I am not really concerned about socializing her. Every morning when I drop her off at daycare she cries, she tells me she doesn't like school, and I am really wondering if it's because she is bored. She's been in daycare since she was three months old, so it's not like it's something new to her, and she loves her teachers, and she has some best friends, that's what made me think it's boring. It's not academic at all, and I am thinking I need something for her that is more about learning, than playing.
