Re: Best schools on LI
This list is compiled using number of AP or IB classes offered and taken in the schools. I don't really see this as a measure of being the "best." I hate these kinds of lists.

I agree. I'm in East Meadow which didn't show up on this list and I know it's a good school that offers A LOT...

Same here. Hate these lists. What one person sees as a value in a quality school may not be true for someone else. Also, every single student is different and may or may not have their needs met depending on what the school has to offer.

Re: Best schools on LI
Unfortunately there isn't a good way to try to compare high schools on a national level. there's just no good way to include many of the variables that are really important. It's the same with college rankings. So much of it is BS. the size of the library has huge importance some years and not others. Ultimately you just need to do your own research and figure out if your school district will meet your goals.

That's true, and it leaves out smaller school districts that do not have enough kids to run a large AP/IB program (such as Island Trees). Also, they have foudn that many schools force students into AP classes who don't belong in them because it makes the school look better.
You should always be weary of these kind of rankings for either high schools or colleges. It's really easy to manipulate data to show whatever you want as a result.

This is true. I have several nieces and nephews in the Jericho schools. It is a fact that they force students into AP classes.

I hate these lists too. But at the same token people who dont "know" use it as a tool so a part of me is glad all of the highschools in my community made the list
