Best things for your new born
DH and I are going to register today. We were going to register for the mamaroo however I have heard from family and friends that the Rock and play is better- what would you recommend as a swing that can be used for them for a good amount of time? I know every baby has different preferences but just looking for a general idea. I want to be sure I get what has been preferred by most as I'm sure with the 2- that swing will be my best friend at times

The rock n play is not a swing. I have both the Rock n play and the mamaroo and they were used for different things. Also my kids never cared for the mamaroo so I wish I had went with a traditional swing.

Kids and their likes/dislikes are individual. My DS loved swings. DD 1... Not at all. DD 2 only for sleep. I used the RNP as a portable crib when babies were small for travel.

Boppys and if you are bottle feeding more bottles than you can imagine lol

Best things for your new born
Good to know! The way my SIL explained it to me the rock and play seemed like a swing! I'm so clueless! Ok so the rock and play seems good to sleep maybe? Does anyone have a particular swing they liked? I'll cross the mamaroo off my registry list- I see its pricy and I hear many aren't a fan!

I used the Rock and play and the snug a puppy swing every single day til my DS was like 9 months. I'd also recommend getting a snap n go stroller.

Re: Best things for your new born
The rock n play is a life saver, my kids loved it, also some sort of vibrating bouncy seat is good, but I heard the new rock n plays vibrate also, so you may not need a separate bouncer. My kids both would cry when I put them in the swing, so that was a no go. Besides that, as newborns they slept in the pack and play for which I bought a better, thicker mattress (Dream on me brand) so they'd be more comfortable. Also this things keeps popping up on my fb feed... Not sure if it's safe or effective.... www.babocush.com. If my next baby is colicky, I might consider it.

Re: Best things for your new born
I have the momaroo and my mom has a more traditional swing at her house. I say save your money and get a regular swing. The momaroo is cool in the way it moves, but the mobile is crappy and you have to manually spin it. For something so high tech with bluetooth and everything, I'm surprised and disappointed that's where they cheaped out. Also, my DD likes the movement of the momaroo, but I still think she likes the traditional swinging movement better.
This is the swing my mom has (Fisher Price), though I think you're having boys, right?
ETA: And yes, the rock and play is totally different. We don't have one and don't really miss it. Though it is a cheap, helpful spot to put you LO down and not worry about them getting out- probably very helpful with twins! We usually kept DD on her newborn lounger- which is basically just a boppy pillow for a newborn to sleep on.

Wish I would have just gotten a nice swing for the get go

Re: Best things for your new born
My DS slept in the Rock & Play before the crib (he hated the basinet).
Also look into a swing that has a power adapter too (not just batteries) - total lifesaver. I had the Fisher Price Snug A Bunny.
The snap and Go comes in handy also. So much easier than lugging the big travel system stroller.
Multiple changing pad covers. I liked the fleece ones better than the terry cloth ones.

The fisher price kick n play piano. My infant kicked those little piano keys as hard as she could for months! It totally entertained her when she was so small and couldn't do much. She's tire herself out and pass out right then and there, a little later you'd hear the music start to go again. It was my favorite.
