Best time to look for flights/cheapest airlines???
My parents just bought a townhouse in florida and I would like to go during my christmas or February Breaks (I know this is an expensive time to go but I don't get off any other time). Ideally, I would like to fly...although looking at flights now, I can't afford it definitely. I never fly (or go for that matter) anywhere b/c hubby is a cheapo. So I have never had to look for flights. Can anyone give me any hints. We live in Nassau but can fly out of anywhere (Islip, Newark, NYC airports etc) and can either fly into West Palm Beach (closer) or Fort Lauderdale. Thank u for the help!

Re: Best time to look for flights/cheapest airlines???
I haven't seen much of a difference on Tuesdays either.
It tends to be cheaper if you book farther in advance but, it's tough during breaks since flights are in such high demand.
It also tends to be cheapest to fly on a Tues or Weds.
I'd check out Kayak.com to see when the best rates are around your travel dates. Also check out the discount carriers - JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, etc to see what kind of deals they have.
You may be able to get special perks (including free flights) if you open an airline credit card.

Tuesdays after 3 pm, the prices go down. I got two credits with Jet blue this way.

I have seen fairly significant price decreases booking late Wednesday night vs a Monday afternoon (approx $50 from NY to Tampa less then a month out).
I was also going to recommend Kayak - they have a fare watcher program that will email you with price changes for your chosen route.

Check kayak first. Find which flights you are most interedted in. Jot them down.
Then go onto yapta.com Put in the flights, and it will track them for you. It's an AMAZING site. Everyday it sends you emails if the price went up or dropped.
I booked a flight to Barcelona on it. There was a 1 day window where the flight dropped $600. I booked it on that day. SInce then the flight went up more than $1000. I wouldn't have known if I didn't track it through yapta!

I'm not sure the best time but stay away from Sundays, most expensive day.

My MIL said she usually checks the prices after midnight also because they go down sometimes.
