Best way to get to Shea Stadium
from the island? What is the best and easiest way to get to Shea Stadium? Drive, train? If you drive, where is the best place to park? If you take the train, which line is it?

Re: Best way to get to Shea Stadium
It's the Port Washington train line on the LIRR or the 7 subway line.
I don't know about the parking situation around shea. If you could, it would probably be easier to park and ride somewhere along the Port Washington train line.

Re: Best way to get to Shea Stadium
I'm going to the game tomorrow...
I would take the train, it's the Port Washington line. I think you can take any train in to Jamaica and transfer back, but that seems to be a pain. I'm actually driving into to Bayside and parking at my DH's business and then taking the train from there.

Re: Best way to get to Shea Stadium
We're going to the game at Shea today and taking the train from Manhasset.
DH refuses to drive as he feels we'll need to get there 3 hours in advance in order to find parking.

FYI -- you can't go through jamiaca - you have to transfer at Woodside or Penn and come back.

Re: Best way to get to Shea Stadium
i don't like to take the train because waiting to get home is SO ANNOYING.
You can take either the LIE or Northern State to the Grand Central Pkwy - the exits for shea are clearly labelled. you can park in the stadium area or across roosevelt ave in the public lot - parking is $15. Driving from Kings Park usually takes an hour - we leave about 2.5 hours before gametime.

Yes, and I knew that! PW line is the only one not going through Jamaica. Duh moment on my part!

Re: Best way to get to Shea Stadium
You have to take the train to Woodside and transfer. The port washington train is on the far side of the tracks. You can also take the 7 train from Woodside.
There is a shea stop on both LIRR and the 7.
If you wanted to drive, take the NSP which turns into the Grand Cental Pkwy and you will drive right by it, you can't miss the exit. Parking is probably a nightmare, I'd think the train is better.
ETA: just saw you're going to Manhasset, there would be no transfers. Just check to make sure the train is stopping at Shea - it should if there is a game going on.

Re: Best way to get to Shea Stadium
Parking is $18 now and there is a super limited number of spots. Train is easier. Yes you have to wait, but it would be worse to drive and not get a spot.

Re: Best way to get to Shea Stadium
We went to the rained out game 2 weeks ago (against Rangers) and drove. They have the parking lot at Shea open as well as the parking lot for the tennis park open, so you can park across the street as well. It's $15 to park.
We took the LIE to the exit for Shea Stadium (I believe the same exit for LGA) and followed the signs for the parking.
