Beta Blockers during pregnancy?
Hi everyone.. I suffer from PVC's (form of an arrhythmia) and they are getting so much worse being pregnant. My doctor and cardiologist have suggested putting me on a beta blocker but of course, that comes with risk. Has anyone taken these during pregnancy? Its such a hard decision, but they are becoming very bothersome and scary and to me
TIA!

Re: Beta Blockers during pregnancy?
I just started TTC again and my doctor put me on a beta blocker for my high blood pressure instead of the drug I was on before. They are supposedly the safest drug to be on during pregnancy. I really have no choice as my blood pressure has never been controlled well except for on medication.

Re: Beta Blockers during pregnancy?
Unfortunately there is not one beta blockes that is category A and "safe" It really depends which one they prescribed, there are some that are category B and some that are category C, there is only one that is category D - Atenolol. I have MVP amd ANSD , they cause me to have heart palpitations, chest pains and shortness of breath. I was prescribed low dose propranolol (spl) by my a specialist , it's category B . Was told to take it on as needed bases. 29 weeks and haven't taken any just yet, but Tue I went to see my regular cardiologist-not the specialist- since I have been having more palpitations past week or so and he told me not to take the med unless I feel like I absolutely need it. The are so many different beta blockers out there, you should ask which one they would prescribe and do some reasearch on it. Or ask them to give you the one you can take as needed, that is a low dose and not have to take it every day.

ITA! I have a-fib and when I was TTC was switched to a different med on a as needed basis. I had episodes in the first tri and still didn't take meds. Actually even in the hospital I wasn't given anything for it but more so they tried to control the other symptoms. I was told as long as my heart rate was under 120, it was ok. I was checking my hr and bp with a cuff daily until I was asymptomatic.

Re: Beta Blockers during pregnancy?
Thanks for the advice girls! I didn't know you could take a beta blocker as needed, so that's a good option for me. I'll speak to my OB about it next week. Thanks again!
