beyond angry, upset and worried (with some questions for the ones who have had D&C , found Chromosomal abnormality ,genetic counseling)

As I have posted I had a missed mc . at 10 w 4 d we found out the fetus stopped growing at 8w3d. They did a D&C and sent out a tissue sample. I went for a follow up after the DC , asked the dr if they found anything, she said it looks like the tissue didn't grow and so we didn't get any answers. I never heard from anyone....
We got pregnant , I'm 6 weeks. I decided to go to a new ONGYN with this pregnancy. I requested my records from the old OBGYN. I just got them in the mail, I was reading and and found that they actually found a 45x (associated with turner syndrome and with spontaneous abortion , I'm guessing it was a girl since this is only found in girls ) and it says "genetic testing recommended for this patient" Chat Icon Chat Icon

Again, I was never told they found anything, I was under the impression they couldn't grow the tissue. The D&C was done mid October and I never got a call from a dr saying you better get a genetic counseling or anything.

So as if I haven't been stressed out enough now this is what I have to worry about. I'm so upset I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. and of course it's Fri night, so it's not like I can call and talk to my old OB or the new OB.

Is there anyone here who has had a mc and the fetus was found to have abnormality? Did you get genetic counseling? What did the drs say to you when the abnormality was found ? Did you go on to have a healthy pregnancy/child?

Anything you can share would be helpful .

TIA

First , Chat Icon Chat Icon I would be beyond livid with your old OB's office for not thoroughly following up. That is unprofessional and really unacceptable.

Next, I'm sorry for your MC. Chat Icon I too had a missed MC at 12 weeks (baby stopped growing at 9weeks). It's very traumatizing.

I had a D&C and it turns out the baby had Turners. It is always a girl as it is missing the second X. It is thought to be a faulty sperm that causes it and is not genetic. It's just a bad sperm, meaning the likelyhood of it every happening again is SLIM. So please, don't panic about your current pregnancy. I too was so worried and my OB reassured me over and over again that it is a one-off and not a reoccuring reason for MC's.

I would speak to your OB about genetic counseling and the possibility of having further tests during this pregnancy i.e. CSV or Amnio if you want your mind at ease.

Good luck and try not to panic about this --- are you going to call your old OB and make a complaint? Chat Icon

ETA: I would up pregnant 3 months after D&C and gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl

No experience from the pg side...BUT I actually have turners. Was diagnosed when I was 5 or 6.., I feel so blessed to be here, since so many TS pregnancies end in mc.
I Have a younger sister who doesn't have TS... So I think chances are slim of it happening twice. I've lived a normal life- got my masters degree in speech therapy, been married for 6 1/2 years, have a great job, and waiting to adopt our son from Korea Chat Icon
If you have any ??s about TS, feel free to fm me! Good luck!!!

first of all..what docs office did not tell you this???

secondly they always have to suggest genetic counseling.. i had triploidy 69xx which is an extra set of chromosomes.
which i was told is not liekly to happen again. some chromosomal issues are possible to repeat and thats why they suggest it. i do not know about turners but your current ob needs to know and maybe they can set you up with a perinatologist and a genetic counselor

third...i think you need to speak to the office manager at that old place NOW and get to the bottom of this horsssseshit. gah

iam so sorry for the stress! but breathe i am sure your baby is fine!!!

Hi. I too had a missed mc due to a chromosomal abnormality. Was not referred for genetic testing. I did end up getting PG again. That baby also has a genetic abnormality, but totally different. Got PG another time and had a mc at 7 weeks. I was referred for genetic counseling when DD#2 was diagnosed. The doc said that the mc and DD's diagnosis are not related in any way, and there is no way to have known or been on notice for the diagnosis we have for her. Also told that the chance of having another baby with this is slim (<1% chance). Feel free to FM me if you want to.

p/s - had an amnio with DD#2 and it came back ok. It didn't find her issue.

Thanks so much everyone , I will call my old OB's office and the new OB's office on Mon.
I am mostly angry about the old OB never calling me and letting me what they found, I can't get over it. Feel like I'm going to explode by Monday morning Chat Icon

I had a D&C in December. They were able to grow the tissue and it came back with a chromosomal abnormality- on the report it said that genetic counseling is recommended but my dr said that it always says that and that I do not need it since it was spontaneous and my chances are not increased for future pregnancies.

I would be frustrated too though if they did not let me know about it.

First off I just want to say I'm sorry for your loss and that you had to find out what happened in this manner Chat Icon

Genetic counseling is always recommended when a chromosomal abnormality is found. I am a geneticist and can tell you that 45X is a very common finding in miscarriage. It is not something that is inherited (meaning it is an error that occurs during cell replication and is not inherited as a genetic disorder would).

Having a previous pregnancy that resulted in Turners does not put you at an increased risk for this pregnancy or any other. I think your doctor knows this and this is why he/she didn't bother to tell you. It doesn't make it right by any means. Chat Icon

If you have any questions, feel free to FM!

Re: beyond angry, upset and worried (with some questions for the ones who have had D&C , found Chromosomal abnormality ,genetic counseling)

I had mc in sept, came back chromosome abnormality in chromosome 18 causing spontaneous mc. Went for generic counseling, they went over with me how baby would never have grown any farther than it did due to this abnormality. Said if I or my dh had a chromosome 18 abnormality we wouldn't be alive so therefore spontaneous. Then we went over family hx and as far as I know no medical issues on either side so they don't believe it would occur again.

I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow but found out progestrone level low so started sups again 2 weeks ago (same happened with last preg, so I'm very nervous). Going for Sono tomorrow to see how baby is progressing.

You can call your insurance and issue complaint about the doctors office you saw. Good Luck!
