BF and is this normal?
A couple of days ago I pumped and got a total of 6 ounces in 15 minutes, now Im only getting around 4, does this happen? I know Im not pumping regilously every 2 to 3 hours, I go every 4 to 5 maybe thats the problem? I dont know, the time just flys and I have good intention to do it every 2 to 3 but by the time I get to it its much later.
Help. TIA.

Re: BF and is this normal?
I didn't pump a lot, but was it a different time of the day? I know at different times I have different amounts of milk. If your concerned about your supply I would pump more, every 2-3 hours.
Good luck!!

Unfortunately, at this stage, it makes a huge difference in output if you are just pumping and not have the baby latch. There are a couple of women on here that are awesome and so helpful with pumping and bfing. I hope they fm you with some info.

Re: BF and is this normal?
I made a ton of milk pumping- but after a while I noticed it started to decrease a bit. So, I am having DS nurse 2 or 3 times a day to keep up my supply and I am pumping every 5 or 6 hours.
Does your baby latch on at all?

Re: BF and is this normal?
Just out of curiosity - why is more milk produced when nursing?
I also notice sometimes because I've been slacking off lately I don't produce as much but when I'm in the shower - I can squeeze out a really good supply. Will maybe putting a warm cloth on me before nursing help more milk come in?

Because a baby is the best "pumper" there is and a breastpump pales in comparison. Since milk is based on supply and demand, the baby does a much better job at demanding milk.

Thanks! I guess it's just natures way. It amazes me really how natural it is.

Re: BF and is this normal?
Pumping, at this stage, needs to be very routine. Are you trying to nurse? If you need help get a professional LC. They can often help you.
I can help you figure out pumping if you want.

Re: BF and is this normal?
Supply will drop off if you are exclusively pumping and only doing it every 4-5 hours. It also depends how long your pumping session lasts too.

Re: BF and is this normal?
thanks ladies for all of your advice, I knew I could count on you.
unfortunately I am only pumping b/c I am having a problem with DD latching and the nipple shields dont hold well. It has been a week since the lactation nurse was here and DD latched on. Finally tonight I have the chnce to go to bru and get more shields. I pray she latches back on and its not too late.

Re: BF and is this normal?
If you feel strongly about wanting to breastfeed try and get her to latch every day! I tried for a good month with only a few random sucesses, and I know of people who tried for much longer then that. It is so hard and people have no idea how hard it is, but be persistant!
A warm cloth will help your milk to come down .... when I was working with a LLL leader she recommended me applying one before I tried to breastfeed or pump to help my let-down.
Also the time of day and how long it has been since you pumped will have a lot to do with it. When I was pumping I got the most in the AM where I would get sometimes as much as 6 oz, and my last pump at the end of the day would sometimes only wield maybe 1 ounce or even less.
Good luck!
