BF and Pumping to go back to work
I started trying to pump yesterday so that I will have a supply when I go back to work around 9/10. I know that I should pump after I feed DS and that I should pump in the morning as the supply is greater, but it seems like I don't get a lot when I pump.
I am afraid that I won't have enough for the first couple of days when I go back to work, after that I am not worrying b/c i will be pumping at work all day.
When did you start seeing what would be enough for a feeding and am I doing anything incorrectly to get the most for DS?
TIA

I've been pumping since I had my DD - August 4th, mainly because my breast are so sore. At first I wasn't able to keep up with the demand so I also give her formula. However, I have noticed in 1 week I am up to 4 ounces in one session of pumping which is about 15 minutes in total. I try to pump every 2 hours for the most part, if I am not breastfeeding her, but I also give formula when I can't BF.
I'm also worried about when I go back to work if I will have enough milk to supply her with, but at this rate, I think I will. If not..she can have formula and I will give her breast milk when I am home.
I think the more you pump the more milk you will get because your breasts will produce more milk.
Good Luck!

Re: BF and Pumping to go back to work
I pumped and nursed since day one! When my milk came in I had such an oversupply, and instead of just nursing to regulate it, I maintained an oversupply and pumped and pumped and pumped and froze it all. As for boosting your supply, keep doing what you're doing! Maybe take fenugreek.

Re: BF and Pumping to go back to work
try just pumping one morning and see how much you get - and then feed DC with that. Also, try to pump until you have a second let down - for some people that can be 30-40 minutes, but it will happen.
you may also want to pump in between feedings. Emptying breasts more often is what signals increased supply

Re: BF and Pumping to go back to work
How old will he be when you go back to work?
My oldest DD was 6 months when I went back, and I found it really easy. She was already on solid foods and would take two 4 oz bottles while I was gone.
I would feed her from only one side in the morning and pump from the other. Then when I got home I'd pump on the side that felt most engorged and fed her from the other. It worked out really well and I'm usually get enough for both bottles from one breast.
