I was pumping by that point and we would give him a few extra ounces in a bottle, then the comfy feeding of the boob. He slept like a rock with those extra ounces in his tummy. When he was 7 weeks too, he was switched to his own room because he outgrew the pack n play. I think it all helped. But who knows?

kelly - i thought about doing that too, but from what i've read on kellymom.com they say that the baby's stomach can only hold so much...so i'm scared to force extra, kwim?

the most he's ever slept has been 4 hours straight, but then in that same night he'll wake every hour...Chat Icon Chat Icon where's the instruction manual when we need it?

When DD was 7 weeks old she would occasionally go 4 or 5 hours before waking up to eat but that was very rare. She was still eating every 2-3 hrs at that point. It takes time but it does start to get better.

do you pump? maybe try just an ounce or so extra. I exclusively pump and DD gets an extra 2-3 ounces in her last bottle of the day, and she sleeps through the night (usually Chat Icon ).

where is he sleeping? the night we moved her into her room was also the first night she slept a good 6-7 hour stretch.

i pump and nurse - the pumping i save for daycare supply and for days when i need to step out and leave ds w/husb, otherwise i nurse him at home, almost exclusively.

we had family over for the 1st month of his life, so we've tried sleeping everywhere- in our room in his pnp, the living room in his swing and in his room in the crib..

he sleeps about the same in each area - some days he'd wake every three hours, some days every 1.5 hours...its like a crapshoot w/him. he's a very good baby - doesn't fuss or cry at night, he just likes to eat alot during the night. i was thinking about giving him bottles to sleep but he guzzles them really quickly and seems to get more worked up than when hes at the breast - i space out the ounces while i feed w/the bottle but he wants his milk when he wants it...

i guess i'll just have to wait it out with him. i dont want to let him CIO b/c he's too young and i feel too bad for him...Chat Icon Chat Icon hopefully he'll magically sleep through the night as i go back to work in 1.5 wks...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: bf mommies - 7 wk old sleeping

I bf exclusively -- pumping for 1 bottle/day that DH wants to give and my ds is 13weeks. He typically gives us 7 hours at night, but occassionally still wakes earlier.

I think at 7 weeks he was only giving us about 5 hours, so stay strong -- it will get better. 've read that 12 weeks and 12lbs is the real turning point.

One thing you might try is cluster feeding. My DS demanded to nurse more often in the evenings on his own (it was 4 hour gaps during daylight hours and about 2 hour gaps after 5pm), so he got more milk w/o being overstuffed. But you might try just offering the breast more often in the hours between your dinner and bedtime (I still wake ds to nurse before I go to sleep if he hasn't nursed in more than 3 hours -- i find it gives me more sleep in the long run.)

i wouldn't recommend letting the baby cio at 7 wks. in fact I try to do the middle of the night feedings w/o letting him wake all the way up -- I don't even change diapers in the middle of the night -- it helps my DS go back to sleep easier and I'm up less that way.

hope it helps!

I think DD was sleeping about 6 hours at 7 weeks. She is now 12 weeks and EBF. The only formula she gets is 2-3 oz. before bed after her last nursing. She goes down at 8:30 and sleeps until 6:30am. She is very much a cluster feeder and I nurse her constantly throughout the day. She was a lazy eater since birth so she eats small amounts but more frequently. I still get up in the middle of the night to pump and we use that bottle for DH to feed her when he gets home from work in the evening. They say the smaller feedings, especially in the evening, help them "tank up" for the night and I really think it helps with us.

Hope that helps! Hang in there, you'll get some rest soon!! Chat Icon

Re: bf mommies - 7 wk old sleeping

My DD will be 6 weeks tomorrow and she seems to go 3-4 hours on average except for the last 2 nights she slept through the night but I just think this is because she is not sleeping AT ALL during the day. I guess I'd rather her sleep at night, but it's just hard because she just wants to be held when she is awake, and I'm like you, I don't like to let her cry because she is so young. Every baby is different and I'm sure it will get better. Could you do the opposite and start out with a bottle and then switch to the breast before bed, this way he gets a little more?
