BF moms-How much weight did DC gain in the first few months?

I've asked this question before and get a little nervous, but then I realize that moms that feed formula usually have kids that gain more. (Although there are a few of you on here that BF and amaze me at how much your child gained.) So, I'd really like to hear only from BF moms on this specific post.

DS is nearing his 4 month appt and he hasn't even gained a pound in this past month. Yes, he's still kinda big, but he was over 11 pounds at birth, so of course he's big. Maybe he's supposed to gain less so he's not as much of a freak.

Total, he's gained just over 4 1/2 pounds in 4 months. Does this sound okay? Chat Icon

Re: BF moms-How much weight did DC gain in the first few months?

DD is EBF and this is what she weighed:

At Birth - 6lbs 14oz (left the hospital at 6lbs 8oz)
1 month - 8lbs 9oz
2 months - 10lbs 8oz
3 months - 11lbs 9oz
4 months - 12lbs 12oz

We always get told she is in the 50th percentile for weight.

jonah's stats:

birth: 6lbs 9oz
1 month: 7lbs 14oz
2 months: 10lbs 7oz

i've been supplementing with formula minimally, an ounce here and there, since 6 weeks old. just two days ago i started giving 1 formula bottle daily while i pump to buid up my freezer stash for day care.

so overall he's gained about 4 pounds in 2 months. BUT he was a peanut when he was born!

i'm sure your little one is just fine!! i bet his rate of gain is slower because he was so big at birth. but if you're really worried, how about giving your ped or a LC a call? i tend to obsess about jonah's growth a lot and my LC always puts me at ease...

Re: BF moms-How much weight did DC gain in the first few months?

Here's my DS weight gain so far...

Born: 8 pounds 7 ounces
11 days old: 9 pounds 2 ounces
4 1/2 weeks: 11 pounds 10 ounces
9 weeks: 14 pounds 5 ounces

He's now 14 weeks and I am guessing he is between 15 and 16 pounds... I think he is slowing down a bit.

I was actually worried that he was gaining too much weight.

But my doctor tells me he is fine. I would assume if your doctor is not concerned, then it would put your mind at ease!

I know, I drive myself nuts. I was concerned last month and the pediatrician said he's doing great! We will see the dr soon for his 4 month. I'm sure it's okay. Chat Icon

Kelly I'm sure he's doing just fine.

DD was:

7lbs 14 oz at birth
7lbs 15 oz. 3 days later
2 month appt. I believe she was 13 lbs
4 month appt: 16lbs. 3 oz.

I'm not supplementing w/ formula & she's not on solids yet

CHUNKA...she's in the 95th percentile for weight

Sounds great - DD is a BF baby she was 9lbs 4 ozs at birth
by one month: 11lbs 8 oz
by 2 months: 12.8
3 months: 14
4 months: 15.7
5 months 16.4

She won't be 6 months until Thursday. The ped is very happy with her growth.

I wouldn't worry about it at all- as long as he is gaining and is happy and healthy that is all that matters. Some babies gain faster than others.

Re: BF moms-How much weight did DC gain in the first few months?

DS was
Birth: 6lbs, 12 oz
Left the hospital: 6lbs, 6 oz
first visit (4 days later): 6lbs 9 0z
3 wk visit: 7lbs, 15 oz
8 wk visit - 11lbs, 3 oz
10 wk visit (switched dr.'s so had another visit) - 12lbs 3oz
15 wk visit - 14lbs 1 oz

Hope this helps! Chat Icon I constantly worry whether ds is gaining enough as well...i have even taken him for a weigh in appt only Chat Icon

ETA: My ped said at 3 mos their growth slows down and weight gain isn't 1/2 lb / wk anymore but more lie 1/2 every 2 wks

Re: BF moms-How much weight did DC gain in the first few months?

DD is EBF.

at birth 8lbs-14oz
left hospital 8lbs-2oz
1 month 10lbs
2.5 months 13lbs-8oz
3.5 months 16lbs-8oz

I think because your DS was so big at birth he may just be gaining a bit slower - isn't he getting really long too?

Our Ped said she should stay on about the same line on the chart at each visit, I think that means within the same percentile. Is he doing that?

His weight is decreasing on the chart. He wasn't on the chart before, so he needed to get on it. His height is still off the chart. And from what I'm hearing from other people and weights/percentiles, I think all of our doctors have different charts! Chat Icon

Re: BF moms-How much weight did DC gain in the first few months?

OK, please don't go by me. My DS has grown like crazy! I don't have my book with me so I might be a little off on some of these.

Birth: 7 lbs 1 oz
6 weeks: 12 lbs 10 oz
11 wks: 15 lbs 5 oz
4 months: 18 lbs 3 oz
5 months: 20 lbs 6 oz
6 months: 21 lbs 11 oz Chat Icon (tripled birth weight)
7 months: 23 lbs 7 oz Chat Icon Chat Icon

*He went off the charts at 11 wks and has followed the same growth curve throughout.

Also, are you and your DH exceptionally big/tall people? I remember reading somewhere that babies regulate during the first year and that sometimes babies that are born larger, don't continue to grow at that rate because of their genetic make-up.

Is he meeting his milestones and happy? I think that as long as he's thriving, you don't have anything to worry about Chat Icon

Re: BF moms-How much weight did DC gain in the first few months?

TMI question...How's his output?

DD poops at every feeding except the one before bed, and doesn't poop all night long until her first feeding. She has a very wet diaper when she gets up in the morning (sleeps 9-10 hours) an then several wet diapers throughout the day, probably about 5 plus all the poopy diapers are usually wet too.
