BF moms... question for ya

Are your babies sensitive to what you eat? I think Yael has a sensitivity to my caffeine intake. I stopped my morning coffee about a week ago, but yesterday I didn't have anything unusual other than a HUGE glass of unsweetened ice tea, and last night she kvetched and spit up for about 3 hours before bedtime. Coincidence, or related to the ice tea?

I have never noticed anything. When I asked the ped about this back when they were first born, he said "when you buy milk, do you hold it up and think about what the cow ate?"

With DS I did notice that tomato sauce didn't agree with him at all. Even a minimal amount.

It could be the caffine, try de-caf and see what happens. In the begging I did drink de-caf but then switch to regular when she was closer to 6 months. She never had an issue with it though.

Re: BF moms... question for ya

Caffeine in general had an effect on ds when he was very little... but to the point that he was wired... and while i didnt notice any foods in particular i did notice that whatever my body was doing so was his.... so if i was having a poopy day so was he (sorry if tmi)

the only other food i ever questioned was milk, which i had been drinking nonstop... and he was gassy... when i cut it back he was better but now he is on whole milkand i have no issues

This is the funniest thing Chat Icon

With that said, I have been nursing DS2 for almost a year now and I can honestly say that nothing I have ever eaten has affected this kid Chat Icon . DS1 was a gassy baby and I would attribute it to the veggies, etc that I ate but even now at almost 3 he is a gassy kid so it obviously had nothing to do with me Chat Icon

Caffeine can definitely do them in - it is one of the more sensitive foods. Both of mine didn't do well on caffeine in the beginning so I avoided it and worked in back in later.

I have heard people say that before and it has never made any sense to me because cows do not vary their diet, they are given a consitent diet by the farmers. Miliking cows eat grass and a structured feed designed to support milk production.

With DS what I eat has had a great effect on him. If I eat any dairy he gets constipated, his eczema flares and he gets mucousy.

Everything I eat affects DD. Dairy, gassy veggies, citrus, caffeine, you name it. At first I thought it was my imagination, but after a lot of trial and error, I realized that she was indeed sensitive.

Re: BF moms... question for ya

oh absolutely she could be sensitive! Isn't tea kind of acidic in general? Even if you switched to decaf, it might not help, but it's worth the try.

Even at 11 months, Ella still doesn't like when I eat anything with tomato sauce. She is a TERRIBLE crank after I eat pasta.
