BF Moms-Why is she doing this??
Two days ago, I noticed my DD was pulling off the breast (not because she was full) and then wanting to latch on again. Usually, when she did that, she was full but now she is right there waiting with her mouth open! It's so confusing...she's not frustrated with my flow and she is doing it with both so I just can't figure it out. I didn't eat anything too harsh (garlic or onion and usually don't) and nothing else has changed.
Any ideas??? I'm a little concerned.

Is she congested at all? That happened when DD had a bit of a stuffy nose.

Is she pulling back and looking at you? Sometimes DD would do that and smile at me and then continue. Then she got to a point when she thought my nipples were fun to tweak
Also soap and perfume can affect them.

More than likely she's just distracible . My DS is 9 months old and he does it all the time. He likes to take little breaks and look around while he's nursing. The only time he really concentrates is when he's tired. Some moms find a nursing necklace effective in keeping the baby's attention.

Thank you everyone!! It makes perfect sense-I'm always telling DH that he's being watched like a hawk in the past week and that he's making so much noise! Looks like we'll have to change our surroundings. I hope this passes though!
Thia-thanks for the site, I never thought to look on kellymom.
Now where can I get those necklaces!

Re: BF Moms-Why is she doing this??
I just wanted to add that I happened to read tonight in a baby book that babies may do that when they're teething or begining to teeth. My son's been doing that for about a month and his first tooth poped out this Friday.

Try googling "nursing necklaces" and you'll come up with a lot of hits. Personally, I like the ones on this site because they look more like real necklaces. The reason to select one that's called a "nursing necklace" is only that it's made to with-stand your DC's pulling at it and putting it in his/her mouth.

My DD did something similar when she was teething.

Yep. Michael is doing this to. His tooth is ready to pop any day! (At least I hope for his sake it is.)

my DD does it and then goes back to latch on and suck... she looks at me and smiles. I think it may be a security thing.. I would not mind at all Dana.

This is my DD. She will arch her back and see what is behind her regardless of what it is. She only pays attention when I am nursing her in her room because it is quiet.
