BFeeding and taking antibiotics
Hi,
I never had to take an antibiotic while nursing but my friend was just prescribed an antibiotic for a bad throat infection and she is still BF. She is away on vacation so cannot ask her reg doctor what she thinks.
Any advice?

She really needed to tell the doctor who was writing the prescription that she is BFing. I hope she did. There are different classes of drugs and there is one that is okay when BFing.They should have prescribed her something from the safe class of medication.

What I would do then if I were her is go to the pharmacy and speak to the pharmacist. They have a reference book that they can look in to make sure the medication is safe for lactating women.

some antibiotics though safe to use while bf'ding will decrease your milk supply.
i know i was on amoxycillin and my milk went odwn while on it
