BF'ing and Psoriasis
I feel bad for wanting to quit nursing because of this, but my Psoriasis is HORRIBLE!!! It was the same way with Caiden and didn't mostly go away until after I stopped nursing him which wasn't until he was 1 year. I've always had a little bit of psoriasis on my legs. Definitely no big deal, but after I have a baby the hormones must aggravate it somehow. During the PG my skin is flawless. No psoriasis at all it's absolutely wonderful, but now, it really bad all over the front and back of my legs and all over my scalp. It's bad enough because of all the hair I've lost. The only thing that will make it go away is to stop nursing. Besides I hate pumping, this is the only reason I'm thinking of stopping. I REALLY don't want to. It's going great! It's cheaper, and more convenient. But, I look horrible. With Caiden it was just as bad and I couldn't even wear shorts all summer long and I live in NC. Now that spring and summer is approaching part of me wants to stop so I can be comfortable and wear shorts and feel better about myself. I don't know what to do. I don't think it's right to just stop because of this. I should just deal with it, right? What should I do? What would you do?

Re: BF'ing and Psoriasis
You have do what's best for you without feeling guilty, i always say happy mommy=happy baby.
I have things that are exaberated by bf'ing hormones so i know how you feel, it's so hard and you feel bad for being selfish and wanting to feel good.
Is there anything you can use that is nursing friendly for it, like a heavy duty cream?

Re: BF'ing and Psoriasis
Not that I know of... After Caiden I went to the Derm and they gave me this oil to put on, which didn't help, but then found out that it wasn't nursing friendly. It's so bad I don't think anything would help.
You know I could deal with it, but you know how people are like so it would be really embarrassing walking around with shorts. I'd be soooo uncomfortable. Everyone would be looking at my legs saying ewww what's that on her legs?

Re: BF'ing and Psoriasis
I didn't BF but do have psoriasis....it was AWFUL right after I gave birth - I'm sure due to the hormone changes. It was unreal how bad it was especially since as I'm older now it's gotten a lot better.
My derm gave me creams to use which cleared it up - but I assumed you could use those creams if you were PG or BFing as well? Have you checked with your derm? You may not have to stop BFing if you don't need cortisone shots or anything.

I really feel for you I am in this situation and i am so torn what to do. Take care of myself, or BF, i keep going back and forth and the guilt is the worst cause i can't do both.
If i were you, i would exhaust as many resources as possible cause it seems to me you really enjoy bf'ing.
Maybe a trip to the doctor and derm again and hopefully getting a solution before making a decision to stop?

Re: BF'ing and Psoriasis
Do you know what creams those were? You might not remember, but I thought I'd ask.
