BFing and sleeping?
MY DD is 5 weeks today and a couple of times the last few weeks she slept 4-5 straight hours and then I woke her to feed her. My mother thinks I'm crazy and says, "Never wake a sleeping baby" My question is, at 5 weeks, can I let her sleep, or should I still wake her? If anything, I need to empty out after 5 hours, ya know?

Re: BFing and sleeping?
As long as she is gaining weight and is on target, I would let her sleep.

I agree. Do you have a pump? You can relieve your engorgement by pumping a little.

Yes, I have a pump, but she doesn't take a bottle. She refuses it. So I'm afraid if I pump, she'll wake up shortly after and I won't have much to give her.

If she continues to sleep for that long, your body will adjust and won't produce as much milk at night while she is sleeping. If you continue to pump, you will continue to produce that much.

Re: BFing and sleeping?
I would let her sleep, and pump right before you go to bed. i would also stick with tryong to get her to take a bottle occasionally- it will make your life MUCH easier.

Re: BFing and sleeping?
I was waking my dd up for feedings at that age, and the peds told me to stop. By waking her i was setting a schedule for her to wake up at that time for food, and later on i will regret that.. well it happened, now at 12 wks she wakes up at that time for feeding. But thank goodness she eats and then passes back out.

ITA - let her sleep and dont pump, it will only take a few days for your body to adjust

Re: BFing and sleeping?
I was told to let them sleep at night but wake them after 4 hours during the day. And as far as emptying out, your boobs will "learn" that they dont need to produce as much at night. Weird I know but its true.
