BFing and weight loss
I'm now 6 weeks PP and still have this 10 pounds hanging on. I really haven't lost any weight in the last 4 weeks, and it's driving me nuts! I don't have time for real exercise, and it's too hot right now for walks. How can I get this extra weight off? I'm not eating bad, and I'm eating less calories than when I was pregnant, so I can't figure out why I'm not losing any weight! Any suggestions?

Only 10 lbs? Consider yourself lucky!
I gained a total of 45 and lost 25 right away. The last 20 sat on me for at least 6 months. Only recently (DS is 8.5 months old) have I lost another 10 and still have 10 to go. Don't beat yourself up about it, it'll come off.

The first 25 came off by day 4, so I have the last 10 of the 35lbs left. I just have no clothes and can't afford an entire new wardrobe right now. I'm only eating about 1500 calories a day, maybe I should decrease it? Will it screw up my milk supply?

Re: BFing and weight loss
I lost the majority of my weight like you at the beginning but then by 6 months PP I lost everything plus 10lbs. Continue 1500 and continue to BF ! It'll happen

Re: BFing and weight loss
Honestly, you can't diet while you are BFing. You need calories. Just eat healthy things and it will work.

I wouldn't limit your calories too much. Believe it or not, I'm still in maternity pants. I'm still up one size and refuse to buy new clothes either.

i wouldn't limit your calories because you need them. i would eat smaller, healthy, meals that will help jumpstart your metabolism. what about just doing some sit ups, climb your stairs, do lunges & squats in your house in the ac until you can start walking again!

Re: BFing and weight loss
Have a milk allergy baby and go on the no soy, dairy, anything diet. Worked for me!
Seriously though, you might be holding on to 10 lbs because your body will hold on to some fat just in case for BFing purposes. I hear it goes away when you stop BFing.
I would also get exercise-take the baby in the stroller and go for a long walk when it cools off.

I wouldn't decrease the calories. Your body is likely holding onto the extra lbs b/c of BFing. Your body needs the extra fat and additional calories in order to produce enough milk. I'd be really careful about dieting while BFing, especially during the first few months. Eat small healthy meals throughout the day. If that along with exercise doesn't help, you may not lose the extra weight until you're done BFing.

Thanks for the link. I'm just a little bummed that I might end up holding on to this extra 10 pounds, because I gained 15 from IVF right before I got preggers. So I really have 25-35 pounds to get down to where I want to be.

FYI 1500 calories for a nursing mother isn't enough.... I'm not sure if you are having milk supply issues or not but you need to eat more. If you starve your body of calories your body will hold onto fat and not burn it.. You need to eat and drink water.
Remember it took you 9 months to put on all the weight... your only 6 weeks PP... give yourself some time....
ETA: Didn't you post the other day about your little one fussing at the breast? You may not be making enough milk because you are eating so little...

My milk supply seems to be fine, my DS is gaining a little over 2 lbs a month. We've just figured out that he has reflux, which was the fussing at the breast.
I'm probably eating 1500-1800 calories a day, it just varies day to day. I ate about 1000-1200 calories pre-pregnancy to maintain my weight, anything more than that and I would end up gaining (even if it were all healthy foods). The first 3 weeks PP I ate 2000+ calories to get my milk supply up, and I was losing about a pound a week then. I'm wondering why the weight loss stopped.

Re: BFing and weight loss
I BF and I really Hung on to the last bit of weight until three months PP. THen it started to come off. You do lose it with BFing.. but, be careful. At one point I lost like two pounds in a few days and my supply suffered. Aim for one pound a week. But, honestly at six weeks PP.... I wouldn't expect too much. Give it time.

Re: BFing and weight loss
I gained 45 pounds while pregnant. I had lost 35 pounds by 6 weeks PP and the last ten hung around for another 2 months or so and then I lost it. For me bf'ing did it. I did not exercise at all. I think that your weight will come off, just give it a little more time.
