BFing moms - what are the symptoms of thrush?

My left nipple has been very itchy and sometimes burning/painful, especially right after nursing or pumping. I've looked in both babies' mouths for white spots but don't see anything...
Is it possible for me to have symptoms but not them?
Does this sound like thrush or something else?

i don't know anything about thrush, but i would get those symptoms every so often while BFing - even after doing it for a while. it was like the first time all over again i just used the lansinoh until it went away.

My son had thrush when he was about 2 weeks old. At first I thought it was milk on his tounge, but realized it was a problem when it wouldn't come off- even if I scraped it!! It even spread to the side of his mouth. I took him to the ped & he was perscribed meds- which worked within a matter of days.

ETS- I didn't BF.

I had it. It felt as if someone was inside of my nipples trying to get out with shards of glass. It burned like hell too. How is THAT for a description?

You can ask your pediatrician to help you look for it on your DC's and they will often prescribe for them AND for you too. We went through Nystatin and Diflucan at different strengths multiple times until the pain hurt so much and I could no longer use my frozen supply because it was recontaminating her. I had to stop BFing at the suggestion of a lactation consultant so I know I did my best. I'm sorry you are going through this.

ETA: There WERE times when I had more visual and apparent symptoms than Abby did.
