BFing moms: cluster feeding questions
DS is almost 5 weeks old. For the past week or so, he wants to nurse for hours at night. It starts anywhere between 8 and 10 p.m. and lasts until 1 or 2 a.m. During the day, he nurses every 2-3 hours for at least 45 minutes at a time. At night, he nurses for at least an hour and then wants to eat again almost immediately afterwards. The constant nursing is making me sore.
Did anyone go through something similar? At what point did the cluster feeding stop? Is there anything I can do to help with the soreness? I sometimes use Lansinoh cream after a nursing session, but since he's nursing all the time at night and I don't really get a break, I don't know how effective it would be to use during a cluster feeding.

Sounds like he is going thru a growth spurt. You can rub a little excess BM on your nipple - that helps a little

Re: BFing moms: cluster feeding questions
i'm going through the opposite...both my boys only nurse for 10-15 mins at a time....they are gaining weight and seem satisfied and have plenty of wet diapers so I know they are getting enough...it just seems like they should be eating longer. I guess every baby is different!
Do you feel a let down when you are nursing?
I have a fast let down so they eat really fast...kinda like gulping.....

yep... I had it for about 10 weeks. just make sure there's a good latch to minimize pain
I must confess I had to supplement w/ formula. I couldn't nurse that long. he literally would nurse for 90 min, nap for 20, and then would nurse.... almost around the clock!

Re: BFing moms: cluster feeding questions
It sounds like a growth spurt to me too. Both DS's would go through that every few weeks. They were always done within 5 minutes but every few weeks they would stay attached for 30 minutes or so. Try to hang in there it should get better within a few days, if it doesnt, try nursing a lot a few hours before bed time to get that extra in the tummy. Good luck
