Re: BFing story on the Today Show
interesting article...
while i don't necessarily agree that one is BETTER than the other, i cannot imagine (for myself, and myself only) not trying to BF because it seems so natural to me - women's breasts were designed to breastfeed and our bodies were made to produce milk after giving birth.
while formula is a MORE than adequate substitute, basic science and biology makes me want to BF - at least at first. i weaned DS at 5 months due to the stress of pumping at work, no other reason.
but i really appreciate the fact that babies raised on formula are just as smart and healthy as those raised on breastmilk, i think that is wonderful, because not everyone can (or wants to) breastfeed.

They didn't really give solid reasons why though, I wish they would have supported their arguement a bit more (coming from a formula user here).

Re: BFing story on the Today Show
wow. i am SO glad someone finally wrote this!
i was SHOCKED when i stopped believing secondhand reports (from books, etc) and actually looked at the medical literature myself about the benefits of breastfeeding.
there is extremely little hard science about this. and many of the available studies contradict one another. made me realize once again that SO much of the stuff we read in popular literature (books, magazines, etc) is based on not too much more than the author's opinion.
i didn't stop BFing my son when i learned this, and i'll still BF my daughter when she arrives. but i'll keep taking what i read about BFing with a grain of salt unless i see the actual study itself...

Re: BFing story on the Today Show
Weird article - not much substance to it. I think it the benefits are more for the mother than the child.
