Biden to speed release of coronavirus vaccines
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/biden-to-speed-release-of-coronavirus-vaccines WASHINGTON (AP) — With COVID-19 surging and vaccinations off to a slow start, President-elect Joe Biden will rapidly release most available vaccine doses to protect more people, his office said Friday, a reversal of Trump administration policies.
“The president-elect believes we must accelerate distribution of the vaccine while continuing to ensure the Americans who need it most get it as soon as possible,” spokesman T.J. Ducklo said in a statement. Biden “supports releasing available doses immediately, and believes the government should stop holding back vaccine supply so we can get more shots in Americans’ arms now.”
Biden’s plan is not about cutting two-dose vaccines in half, a strategy that top government scientists recommend against. Instead, it would accelerate shipment of first doses and use the levers of government power to provide required second doses in a timely manner.
The Trump administration has been holding back millions of doses of vaccine to guarantee that people can get a second shot, which provides maximum protection against COVID-19. Both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines require a second shot after the first vaccination. One-shot vaccines are still undergoing testing.
A recent scientific analysis in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine estimated that a “flexible” approach roughly analogous to what Biden is talking about could avert an additional 23% to 29% of COVID-19 cases when compared to the “fixed” strategy the Trump administration is following. That’s assuming a steady supply of vaccine. ...
I think this is a good idea. And if Pfizer and Moderna can't keep up, Biden could have other companies make doses as well.
The biggest hurdle will be convincing everyone to get the vaccine. With a huge number of people wrongly thinking that Biden stole the election, they may refuse the vaccine on that point alone.

ETA: Misread your post. I thought you said nobody was refusing to take it.
Millions of people think that Biden stole the election. Millions think the virus is a hoax. Millions think the Democrats are putting nanobots in the vaccines. Domestic terrorists stormed the Capitol.
Do you really think none of those people will refuse the vaccine because Biden is president?

All over the place. Even on LIF, there are a lot of people who aren't planning on taking the vaccine. You can't go on any news site without seeing talks of people not wanting to take the vaccine.
For years, people have refused vaccines for any number of reasons.
All over the place because of Biden? On LIF too? Never heard that but maybe you have seen it places that I have not.

Ok so you have heard people say this is the reason they won’t take the vaccine or you are just assuming?

"they may refuse".... that's an assumption. Based on all of the interviews I've seen, the comments on-line, the domestic terrorist attack, etc.
In order to get 70% or more herd immunity, it doesn't matter why people don't get the vaccine. Anyone who doesn't get the vaccine makes it harder to get to the 70%+ herd immunity that we need.

Ok thanks. I haven’t heard one person say that and I know many who have no desire to get it right now. Maybe you can show me some links from real people as it sounds so far fetched but it is 2021, sooo lol

Re: Biden to speed release of coronavirus vaccines
https://www.brookings.edu/techstream/will-americans-trust-a-covid-19-vaccine-not-if-politicians-tell-them-to/
In a study of American attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination, just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Network Open, we found that Americans’ support for vaccination declines in the face of political involvement in the vaccine process.
A Trump endorsement dampens the likelihood that individuals will vaccinate (see Figure 1). A Biden endorsement fares no better statistically. Despite missteps by the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in responding to COVID-19, endorsements by either would be a more powerful lure for Americans than either a Trump or Biden endorsement. ...
It goes both ways. People will refuse a vaccine if politicians get involved.

MANY people a while back (summer?) said they were uneasy with the vaccine especially because Trump was trying to push everything through at "warp speed" and most don't trust him. But I think over time people changed their tune once the science spoke and Fauci endorsed it. Plus, with COVID as bad as it has been since it started I think a lot of people are panicking now that this will never end so the vaccine is looking better and better. I know that even for myself, if this vaccine means life can being to normalize than I am all in. I was nervous about it months ago but I cannot continue to live like this much longer so I am ready and willing.

Re: Biden to speed release of coronavirus vaccines
My concern on releasing all the doses available is if the demand can’t be met for the 2nd dose. It is definitely a gamble.
I am not getting the vaccine unless mandated. It has nothing to do with the election. Nothing to do with Democrats or Republicans. I don’t think the virus is a hoax. I have concerns on the longer term effects that we just don’t know yet.

Biden to speed release of coronavirus vaccines
I haven't heard people use Biden as an excuse not to get the vaccine but since they think Covid is all a conspiracy, I wouldn't doubt some people will think Biden is "tainting" the vaccine some how.
I am not sure how I feel about releasing it all at once though. I thought it was smart to hold back the dosages so people are guaranteed their 2nd shot. I do not think you can mix shots so if one of the companies can not keep up, then the first shot is useless. We'll see how that plays out.
I can't wait to see if Biden makes a mask mandate. The shit will hit the fan lol.

Nope. Not even close to mandated everywhere, some states don't require them at all.

This is a VERY REAL, LEGITIMATE concern.
I hope he does not release all of them at one time. It is foolish.

Ahh I see only 38 states are mandated. I guess to us it would not be any different than what we are doing now.

It would be a huge difference. Having a National level protocol would make things simpler, make everyone realize that we are all affected, and if we visit other states, or other states visit us, everyone would know the policies. Also, there are people who say "Well, in *that* state, they don't have to wear masks, so why do I"?
The virus doesn't follow state boundaries. We need National level guidelines in place. There does need to be some local guidelines based on the area, but certain things need to be more universal.
