Big Baby= Bigger Pain?

At my 36 week sono 2 weeks ago I was told the baby is big and will probably be a nine pounder. My question is: Will the pain be the same if the baby's 6 pounds or 9 pounds, or will I REALLY suffer?

I don't think that size of baby alone indicates how much pain you'll have. There are way too many other factors.

(and I am 5'2 and had a 9 lb 1 oz pound baby)

Re: Big Baby= Bigger Pain?

I have been told that it doesn't matter the size, that it can still be painful even with a small child. When my SIL had my nephew who was born premature and was 5lbs. 4oz. that the labor pains still hurt.

So the bigger the size does not mean the bigger the pain. It's going to be painful either way.

Re: Big Baby= Bigger Pain?

Those sonos are soooo innacurate most of the time Chat Icon - they usually just tell you if baby is teeny or record-breaking huge. Try not to worry!

ETA: I heard there was a study on epidurals that showed that it did not slow down labor and sometimes helped it along - so use it if you need it!

Re: Big Baby= Bigger Pain?

my sono said a 8lb baby i had a 9lb 13 oz baby. the epidural is your friend. my labor was not bad at all i got to the hospital at 8pm mad becuase american idol just started and was contracting 2-3 minutes apart lasting 1 minute the doctor said i was 5 cm dialated by 10pm i was fully dialated. dh showed up at 11pm and then i started pushing took 2 hours becuase she got stuck behind my pelvic bone. only thing with big babies are you pretty much end up being cut. i didnt feel a thing the drugs were amazing!

Re: Big Baby= Bigger Pain?

I dont know about the pain but from about 30 wks on they were telling me my baby wuld be big. By 36 weeks they were telling me she'd be 9-10 lbs and were pushing me to have a c-section. I refused, even though they told me atmy sono every week she was BIG.

Well...she was born at 6 lbs 15 oz...so they were way off.
