Biggest Losers definitely do low carb...

Did anyone watch Tuesday night? When they went home Mark made dinner for his family which consisted of only grilled chicken, onions, summer squash and marinara sauce. Then when Roger went out he said "Oh I can't have potatoes, fries, rice, etc." This whole time I thought they were doing low fat but they must be doing low carb. They have to be to be losing as much as they do. I think the only carbs they eat are the oatmeal they eat in the morning. I find it interesting. They never really say on the show exactly what they are eating. Just bits and pieces. I think after my weigh in on Saturday I am going to try to have a lower carb week. Stick to protein and veggies. Does anyone have the biggest loser diet book? What type of diet do they recommend? This show and their losses just boggle my brain. It is so crazy that 8 weeks later they can be losing 10-16 pounds each. So crazy!

In one post interview from last season one contestant said they do 6-8 hours a day. I cannot imagine. I guess just simple science..calories in vs. calories burned.

I only watch the show in bits and pieces so I dont know exactly what they eat but I gotta say - you and I, and anyone thats overweight can lose that much every week if you work out for 3 hours a day! I mean please, its so unrealistic. We have jobs, commuting, children, responsibilities. I know food plays a part it in too but.....

You are not alone - tons of people like that show. I just personally have issues with it cause I would be totally skinny if I didnt have to work or cook or clean or take care of a household too!!!

I LOVE Christian (in a non sexual way of course) Chat Icon!!!

before our wedding DH and I would eat oatmeal for breakfast or lunch and no carbs at dinner. We lost a lot of weight from it. I think we may try it again!

Re: Biggest Losers definitely do low carb...

No clue on what diet they follow -- other than going to Subway and chewing whatever brand of gum sponsors the show.

I read somewhere that the "week" between weigh-ins isn't really a week. I really enjoy the show, but it's frustrating to watch them lose a bizillion pounds each week and I lose 2. Again, I'm not at the gym at all, let alone 3 hours a day, but still.

Re: Biggest Losers definitely do low carb...

I doubt they eat low carb while at the ranch. They'd never get through those workouts without totally hitting the wall. Maybe he's doing low carb at home to help him continue to lose weight, since he's not working out like a madman anymore and needs all the help he can get.

I have the Biggest Loser cookbook and it may be lower carb, but not low carb.

My FIL, who is very athletic, swears by eating oatmeal in the morning and not having many carbs for lunch or dinner. He uses the Irish steel-cut oatmeal though, which I believe is much higher in fiber than the instant oatmeal packets. It keeps you full for a really long time.

I know I def thought they did low fat at the ranch and then when they went home I was like Chat Icon. I was curious to see if they were telling us one thing and they were doing something else to get the big numbers. But I think you are right they might have just done lower carb at home to compensate for not working out as much. This week I am going to try eating my carbs in the morning with breakfast and then lunch and dinner protein and veggies and only sugar free snacks or fruit/veggies.

Yeah I have heard of the steel-cut oatmeal. Dr. Oz on Oprah said that was amazing to start your day off with. Do they sell it in the regular supermarket?

I know! I don't think he is going to win. Not cutting-edge enough. But he will be so successful I am sure after the show.

Yes, but Trader Joe's has it for less.

They do - even at our little supermarkets in the city that don't have the best selection. Chat Icon
