Biophysical Profile Test- Did anyone go for this test?
I am due in a week and my dr is advising inducement this Friday!! His only reason is that the baby is getting bigger and therefore harder to deliver.
However--he knows I want to see what naturally happens (i still have 1 week1!!) BUT he is making go for this test to make sure the baby is stable.
I am so confused!!

I have to take this because of my clotting issues. I think it is just to make sure the baby is OK - althoug if you aren't due yet and have no complications, I don't get why he wants to do it....

I feel like he wants to induce and if this test comes back with some reason to do it--he can then justify his reasoning aside from a big baby

Why can't they just let the BABY decide when it's time??????

Hmmm well then....maybe you need the test? Is there a reason to expect your baby is too big? Do you have GD?

Re: Biophysical Profile Test- Did anyone go for this test?
I had them with the NST when I was late.
I'm not sure which measured which, but they hooked me up to a fetal monitor, a monitor for my contractions and I had to push a button everytime I felt a movement. Then they gave me a sono which they attempted to measure baby and the amount of fluid and see if there was meconimu (sp?)

I go weekly because of my GD. I don't think it is a bad thing. Better to know what is happening in case there is an issue

Re: Biophysical Profile Test- Did anyone go for this test?
I had it last week...I had a sono for size and fluid, then hooked up to a monitor for contractions, baby's heart rate and movements...I had it because I measured small all along and had begun to feel less movement...

Re: Biophysical Profile Test- Did anyone go for this test?
i get one every week! it measures the baby's movement, tone, "breathing ability" (although they don't really breath yet), fluid level. it's a really quick and easy sonogram.
the other test, nonstress test is when you are on the heart monitor and they are checking for uterine activity too (like contractions).
both tests are easy and not stressful.

ITA - not stressful at all. I had these every week for the last several weeeks of pregnancy. They just want to make sure there's enough fluid, that the baby is mimicking breathing and taking measurements.

Re: Biophysical Profile Test- Did anyone go for this test?
Me too - for the past 6 weeks or so because of GD. They want to make sure the placenta is not aging too quickly, etc. It is just a sonogram & they "score" the results from 1-8. An 8 out of 8 is a "perfect" score - everything is fine. Sometimes they may do a stress test with the BPP but not always. That is when the monitor is used.
