Re: Birth control ... ?????
Hi, I'm not pregnant (been on BC for 10 years) but my SIL was on the pill for 5 years & got pregnant her very first month off the pill. If you have concerns, I'd speak w/ my doctor, I'm sure he/she could reassure you.

Re: Birth control ... ?????
It depends what kind of birth control. If we're talking about the pill, yes, you can get preggo right away.
If we're talking about other methods (like IUD, the shot) it does take longer, up to a year in some cases.

Re: Birth control ... ?????
From everything I've heard the pill does not affect your fertility. That being said-to ME it seems unnatural to have medication controlling natural body functions unless it is medically necessary. If it was me I would chart and use OPK's and abstain when I was ovulating

It depends on the couple, but my good friend JUST got off of IUD and was pregnant that same month.

Re: Birth control ... ?????
sorry to give you a negative perspective but I was on BC for 2 years and went off it around 5-6 years ago, and have been irregular ever since, i think thats rare though, most people dont have a very hard time, it took my GF 8 months after BC

Re: Birth control ... ?????
Why is your doctor asking you to go on BC? What are the reasons?
I believe it is much healthier to be off the pill.
You do have a choice. The doctor cannot dictate but only recommend. Doing so, the doctor needs to justify why he would put you on a prescription medecine.
Apparently, the condoms have worked for you.
So did it for me. I have been off the pill for 2 years. 2 years ago, I was rushed into the hospital because they believed I have developped a blood clot in my lung. When 3 different doctors told me in 3 different instences that I really should reconcider taking the pill, I follow their advise. Of course, my OB/GYN at the time, thought nothing of it but agreed that it was my choice.
Thing is.... I am not a good candidate for the pill. I clot easily and I have migraines. Things my OB/GYNS over the years, did not really think much of.

Re: Birth control ... ?????
I definitely do not believe that there is an issue with getting pregnant after being on BCP. I've never been pregnant so I can't speak from my own experience.
But, after many years on the pill, I had HUGE tremendous fibroids and endometriosis, removed by surgery. It has never been proven that fibroids are made bigger from the pill, but some people think it's a possibility.

Re: Birth control ... ?????
I was on BC for six years, came off it and got pregnant the first month off.
I asked my doctor if it was "bad" that I got pregnant the first month off the pill and she said no, that it was out of your system in 24 hours.
