Birthday Party for 6 yr. old boy?
My daughter is getting confirmed a couple of days after my son's 6th bday. She is having a party on a Sunday and I am thinking of doing my son's birthday on that Saturday. What that means is that we are limited on money that weekend-lol!! I am thinking of having a bday party at home instead of spending hundreds of dollars to have it someplace out. I have some questions:
1. Can I put on the invite a time ending like when you do it on the outside? 2. Can I get away with not renting a bouncy house and just do games? 3. What types of games can I do besides crafts, pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs? 4. If I do rent a bouncy house, can I just do cake then to save on the food?
I have only once done bday party at home as I have a small house and was always afraid if it rains what to do with everyone.
Thanks :)

Re: Birthday Party for 6 yr. old boy?
If I was making a kids party at my house and didn't want to rent a bouncy I would come up w/ a craft/activity that would "entertain" kids for about 30 mins. For example, maybe I would have each kid make their own english muffin pizza. I would have them put the sauce on, add the cheese etc. Then maybe they could also decorate cupcakes or make their own sundae's for dessert. Then while the pizza's are cooking, I would have everyone play games or do another craft. Once the pizza's are done, we would eat, then decorate dessert. After eating, a little free play to burn off all the sugar and then time to go.
I would put a time frame on the invite if I did the above. Games: maybe a scavengar hunt, pinatta, egg and spoon race, face painting or tattoos.
I would do a search online. I am sure there are a lot of sites that offer activites and games for kids parties.

Re: Birthday Party for 6 yr. old boy?
Since I have a 6yo boy, I've been to quite a few 5 and 6yo b-day parties...
You can definitely put an end time on the invite. We were at a b-day party yesterday at a classmate's backyard. There was a horde of people leaving at the designated time. There were a lot of relatives as well, so I'm not sure if *everyone* left on time, but I'm sure all non-family left within 5-10 minutes of the posted end time. The key for letting everyone know it's time to go, is have a pinata, let the kids get all their candy, then start handing out the goodie bags. That seems to be the universal "Get out of my yard!" signal....
A group of 6yo kids will always find a way to have fun. Try and focus on physical things, like relay races, water balloon catches (which will turn into a water balloon fight, but that's OK too.... ). If you can pick up really cheap trophies or medals, the kids will eat that up. Just have a series of races and give out medals to the winners.
You can get away without having a "meal" as long as it is between mealtimes. 2-4pm usually implies no food. Also on the invite, write "Cake will be served". That lets everyone know that since you mentioned cake and nothing else, there won't be real food.

If you're not doing food, I would put on the invite something about joining you for desserts so they know what to expect. I think a minimum time is a 3 hour party & I wouldn't want you to get stuck with kids asking you for pizza.
We've been to plenty of backyard parties. The kids really loved them. One person had a science theme, which was pretty cool. They had bones to dig in their sandbox for archeology, a craft, all sorts of science gadgets to look at. It was great.
You can buy a ton of beach balls on sale now for them to play with too.
As for rain...put on the invite...dress for mud & make the best of it. My niece had a Survivor party, where they had to eat things like sushi, avocadoes, etc. The rain added to the relay race & everyone had a blast.
