Black Friday sales? Are they worth it?

Every year my dh and I drop the kids off at my parents the day before Thanksgiving (today) and do ALL our shopping.
Now I just get an e-mail from Toys R Us with some 12am-1am black friday deals...on a LOT of things that I wanted to pick up for my kids.

Is it worth it? I don't mind going shopping at 12am...but it's the crowds, the pushing...and shoving, etc.

I personally love the entire experience of shopping on Black Friday. We go at around 5-6AM. I actually don't find the stores "that bad". Yes, Walmart, Best Buy, get hairy. But the rest not so bad.

Ironically so many people stay away because of the "crowds" its actually fun to me.

I have done black friday .. and if you have the time, then its not that big of a deal.

However, I like buying early and just knowing its done! its mine and thats taken care of. Its worth the extra money to have no worries about supply vs demand.

IMO, unless the crap is free, it is NOT worth going anywhere near a mall of any sort for the next 3 weeks. Chat Icon

It took me 20 mins just to get through TRU parking lot today. Online shopping here we come.

Ive done it before and I say definitely no, unless you are specifically looking for something that you know is on sale.

Amazon has a Tom Tom for $59.99, $49.99 if you have a Discover card. Beats heading to Walmart

I think people get a high from the experience. I can get that high from sniffing glue. No thanks.

Re: Black Friday sales? Are they worth it?

Crashing... me and my sister did TRU at midnight this year. She wanted to get something for my niece that was going to save her $170.

After that she managed to finish shopping for her two girls, and all her nieces and nephews and in total saved close to $500.

The crowd wasn't bad at all and it was extremely organized. We also went with the notation if it was horrible we would leave but she had to try.

We got there at 11:20 and walked in at midnight, got a cart and shopped. The only thing was we waited on line to check out for two hours. But at that point there was no turning back. And 15 minutes before we got on line it wasn't as bad of a wait, I guess a lot people finished around the same time.
