Black labs...karacg come in!
My neighbor's friend is giving up her 6 yr old female black lab...she has a new baby and says she has no time to pay attention to it but anyway I am thinking about going to meet her I am just nervous of getting a 2nd dog because Casey was / is a bundle of energy at times...she is 3 now and calming down a bit..but if anyone has experience with black labs, are they as hyper as goldens? This lab is 6 so I'm thinking she may be on the calm side...

OH my gosh I will save my words for your neighbor's friend...
Labs are the SWEETEST dogs you can find!! That's why we got one right away after Ebony passed. They DO need excercise..and they LOVE other dogs. I am betting a thousand bucks that with Casey, the new Lab would have a great time. They could probably keep each other so entertained they would wear themselves out.
EVERY dog needs training -- be it a class at PetsMart or a private trainer (MUCH more effective and really worth the $$). Your neighbor's friend should look into this if she hasn't - but sounds like you would make a much better mommy!!
Labs get along great with other dogs and wil people - my sister has a 12-year-old Golden who Scout adores - but she is too old to play anymore, although she tolerates him, lol. Otherwise I think they are a great match -- Goldens love other dogs as much as Labs do!!

Re: Black labs...karacg come in!
I have two labs and they are the love of my life. Their puppyhood lasts about 2 years, but sounds like this one is older than that so she should fit right into your home. Best of luck and good for you!

I can vouch for the fact that Black Labs love other dogs. Misty loves to play with Scout and she got along awesomely with Ebony. They really know how to put up with another dogs peculiarities....
And kudos to you for even thinking of taking her in..

Re: Black labs...karacg come in!
My very good friend has an older black lab and Dottie was totally harassing him and he didn't get bothered one bit.
By the end of the night they were BFF!

You know once you meet her it's going to be all over ITA. And I think that even though your pup is still active, maybe a playmate is just what the Dr ordered!
And to the current owner who "doesn't have time"
