Bleeding Gums-ugh!!
I'm 23 weeks pg and lately my gums are a disaster area. They bleed like crazy when I brush and floss. I had my yearly dental checkup right before I found out again but I have to schedule another appointment. dentist. I've read it is a hormone thing (isn't everything during pregnancy?), but it is really annoying. Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks!

Re: Bleeding Gums-ugh!!
I'm not experiencing bleeding gums, however, I am experiencing a bloody nose every once in a while. I've read that this is pretty common in pregnancies, so I would have to guess that so is the bleeding gums thing.

Re: Bleeding Gums-ugh!!
Hi , I am a dental hygienist and yes bleeding gums are a hormone "thing" due to the pregnancy- it is extremely important you keep it under control by going to get a cleaning, if the bacteria ( from the bleeding) stays in too long( no time frame, everyones body is different) it can turn into a perio problem and it will affect the baby - low birth weight. When you are pregnant you are suppose to get cleanings every 3 or 4 months depending on your past history with bleeding gums or your current condition with bleeding gums. Keep flossing - sooooooooo important too! Most of my pregnant patients had this, had cleanings every 3 months and after the pregnancy their gums went back to normal. Also watch out for the pregnancy tumors on the gums too. No need to worry those wont harm the baby or you. they either go away on their own after pregnancy or it can be surgically removed.

Re: Bleeding Gums-ugh!!
so far at the beginning of my first trimester (6 weeks) I had a HORRIBLE toothache that lasted 3 days and after it went away morning sickness came on fast and strong! A few days ago (at the beginning of my 2nd trimester- 13 weeks) I got the toothache back but worse. It stayed for 3 days and after it went away I feel great! No morning sickness or tiredness (so far!)
