Blinds/Curtains/Valances

What are you all putting in the nursery? MIL got me the valances that match my bedding set already, and I love them because they're cute. Presently, we have these thin roman shades on the windows that block none of the light, they act as spotlights practically! Chat Icon So, I figured I'd get blinds--are you getting room-darkening ones? And what about curtains? Will it look odd to have just valances and blinds, no curtains?

Can you tell I'm not big into decorating?

Re: Blinds/Curtains/Valances

I am using a room darkening shade (not so fashionable but practical), then a valance on top which matches the crib ruffle and the border

My aunt works for Ethan Allen and now she makes her own window treatments - it's amazing. Sooo she is going to make me something for the babies room! I'm excited!

Re: Blinds/Curtains/Valances

I am using a room darkening roller shade & I am using fabric adhesive to put some of the fabric that I am using on the bedding so that it matches. We are making our own valances & curtains.

Re: Blinds/Curtains/Valances

Just regular mini-blinds and a valance for us.

We got a valance that matches the bedding pattern, so that will be our decorative touch.

Re: Blinds/Curtains/Valances

Ok, here are my valances. The background is supposedly a very pale pink, not white as it appears. The wall color is a pretty sage green (and the valances, bedding, etc. have sage accents), the windows have nice bright white trim. I am accenting the room in sages & soft pinks. Baby furniture is a medium-tone wood color, as are the floors (like a pecan).

If I did blinds/shades and curtains, which colors should I get? What color blinds/shades (wood, white, green, etc.) and what color curtains (pale pink, etc.)?

Thanks ladies. I stink at decorating!! Chat Icon

ETA: I love gingham, what about a very pale-pink gingham curtain, if I can even find it somewhere? Would that be cute? Guess it would help to get the valances in first, to check them out in person. Then I'd still have to figure out blinds/shades, color, etc.! Chat Icon

Re: Blinds/Curtains/Valances

I'm really bad a the whole curtain thing. I know I want white wooden blinds and curtains but I have no idea what kind of curtains. I'm thinking simple, like a sheer type one. Definitely the wooden blinds tho.

Re: Blinds/Curtains/Valances

We're putting up regular blinds and a valance that matches our bedding of choice. We don't have room darkening blinds in any other room so I don't see the point of putting them in the baby's room.

Re: Blinds/Curtains/Valances

We are in the process right now -- we put up wooden blinds. I was going to get room-darkening but I decided I want baby to sleep in any kind of environment be it light or dark in the room, esp. since we travel a lot.

I have valances - but now I need to get a curtain rod since the one I had is too thin. It needs to match the blinds.

I think that will be enough, no curtains although I thought about it....

Re: Blinds/Curtains/Valances

Thanks for the input ladies. Good points from a few posters about not getting room-darkening shades/blinds, so baby can sleep anywhere. Never really thought of that!

Think I may get wood blinds, still deciding about curtains. I'm not really a 'sheers' girl, otherwise they'd look cute too!

I ordered a valance that matches my bedding but it is not long enough across. We already have blinds up, so over the weekend we hung some pink gingham curtains with these adorable pink gingham holdbacks we got at Pottery Barn Kids. I really wanted to use the valance, but it just didn't work out.

Can you use two valances on a window to make it fit?
