blond hair with brunette highlights?

how do ppl feel about blonde hair with brunette highlighs?! i'm not sure i have ever seen this done before Chat Icon

my natural hair color is dirty blonde, but i have been dying my hair VERY blonde for the past year or so... i'm kind of looking for a change... i dont want to dye my WHOLE head brunette b/c if i want to switch back to blonde, that may be really hard... so i just thought about doing brunette highights but i didnt know if this would look good or if its something that is even done?

thoughts would be appreciated!

TIA!

Re: blond hair with brunette highlights?

well, it's not 'highlights' (on the top of your head where the sun would hit), rather it's 'lowlights' (underneath hair is made brunette)

yeah, it's pretty common. frequently, people will get both high and low at the same time.... just makes the hair color more interesting (I have the same hair color as you, and we do tend to look a bit washed out if there's no color variation in our hair....)

go for it!

I get my hair highlighted & lowlighted every time I go to achieve that look. It looks more natural and it takes longer to notice the roots.

Re: blond hair with brunette highlights?

I get lowlights to break up my light blonde, and b/c my highlights had gotten a bit too 'heavy' for me .......They kind of put them in to blend in my roots and break up the blonde ........but it's not really a brown streak .......

I don't like the look of dark streaks over a light blonde base .......I think it looks trashy -

And IMO it's definitely NOT something you want to do yourself.

It's just not the same technique as highlights and can go bad very easily .........ESPECIALLY if you are very blonde - You need to be sure you're using the correct color and putting the lowlights in the right places for your hair cut/style or it's not going to blend - it's going to look like a choppy botched mess -

Re: blond hair with brunette highlights?

Didn't you say your natural base is a darker blonde?
What if you dyed your hair back to your natural base color (so that when it grown in you don't have roots) and see how your current highlights come through with that? If you want to add a few more highlights here or there, you can do that much easier than lowlights -
