Blonde to Red?
So I really wanted to dye my hair red this fall (I am naturally blonde) cause as I lose my tan (slight tan) I just feel the blonde really washes me out. But I have read that the red on blonde fades really quickly. Anyone do this?? Pics? Thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Blonde to Red?
I did. I absolutely love it and I have gotten so many compliments. Originally I am a dark blonde then started dying my hair lighter blonde for a while now I am red. While I agree that you shouldnt wash red dyed hair every day bc it will fade, I still thin it looks awesome and holds up. Try washing it 3-4 times a week and re-color every 4 weeks.

Re: Blonde to Red?
i've had every haircolor under the sun and yes, reds do tend to fade the fastest (and get pretty brassy too.) Use products/shampoos for color treated hair and avoid the sun and washing daily. This will help prolong the color.
Also keep in mind that if you plan on dyeing it back to blonde that the red will hold on pretty tight and its hard to get back to more of an ashy blonde rather than a strawberry blonde.
Good luck!

Good point! Actually I was going to say stay away from the strawberry blondes bc IMO it fades the quickest. You might want something dark and rich. Ive been using loreals copper penny or Loreal feria dark red. It looks awesome and even with the fade it still looks rich. If you go the strawberry blonde route I think you are going to lose it too fast.

Re: Blonde to Red?
I did this every year...blond in summer (more my natural color) and copper dark red in winter. The red fades VERY fast if you don't keep up on it. I had mine re-done every 4-5 weeks in the winter just to be sure it stayed. I always got fantastic compliments on the red because it really makes my eyes "pop." Unfortunately, I'm in no position $$ to have my hair done at all now. Very sad! A woman must have priorities!!!

Re: Blonde to Red?
I LOVE the color you posted. I have always wanted to go from my light natural blonde, to auburn - Nothing is impossible, and it will probably look fabulous .....but not w/o a LOT of maintenence and $$$
Red is NOT something you can just 'let go' and get away with if you don't have the $$ at the time or have to miss your salon appointment you know?
It's gorgeous, but if you're a natural blonde, you're going to have to work extra hard to keep it looking fab since red tends to get brassy esp. over light pigmented hair -
Good Luck and POST PICS !!!! I wish I had the nerve to bite the bullet and do it too !! -

Re: Blonde to Red?
I went from a platinum blond to a really bright bing cherry red and I was at the salon ALL day but other than that I get nothing but compliments on it and everytime I go I let my girl play around and do some funky things with it.
It is definately something that needs to be kept up I am in the salon every 4-5 weeks b/c otherwise it gets pretty brassy and dull looking.
In the winter I will usually do a very deep red w/ black highlights and then in the summer I do a cherry red color w/ brighter hi-lites running through it.

Re: Blonde to Red?
I'd love to see real pictures of people who made a big change to their hair color....I've always wanted to go darker but I am scared. I am a natural darker blonde and highlight it lighter...

Re: Blonde to Red?
I just did this a few weeks ago and it is already faded. I loved it so I'm going back again this week and having my hairdresser go a little darker and see if it holds this time.

Re: Blonde to Red?
I've done this and have mixed feelings about. I love how it looks for the first few weeks, but that brilliant red fades to blah very quickly. Then when you're tired of red and want to do something else, it's like impossible to get rid of. The blah, brassy red seems to poke through every other color. So for those reasons I'd probably never do it again.

My eyebrows aer actually pretty dark for me being blond (thus why I am always accused of being a bottle blond - not true!). I can always adjust a bit with a pencil.

Re: Blonde to Red?
DONT DO IT!
It takes forever to get red out.. It fades and stains the hair!

Re: Blonde to Red?
Yes it does fade out pretty quick - Red is high maintenance but if you love it I say GO FOR IT.
why not
