blood test to confirm pregnancy
so my OB doesn't do a blood test to confirm the pregnancy, just does a sono at 8 weeks (which we have scheduled). but, my husband would really like a blood test done. i think he worried about getting really excited and then being let down. he suggested that i call my primary care dr and ask them if they can do it. has anyone done that?

i would call and request the hcg bloodwork because you are nervous- they shouldn't refuse it!

Re: blood test to confirm pregnancy
My Dr told me that the urine pregnancy tests of today are just as accurate as a blood test to confirm pregnancy so he won't do it and insurance won't cover it- unless you are having problems that is and need to track hcg numbers.

Yup, that's basically what my OB's office told me. But my appt isn't until 8/9, which is so far away!!!
My OB's office said I would need to go to an urgent care. My general doctor's office said they wouldn't do it unless I switched to their OBs. Ugh.

Honestly, you don't need it. If you got a BFP on a urine test, you're pregnant. If you want to keep confirming, just to feel better, just get a bunch of pregnancy tests and take them every week

I know. It's more for my husband than me. You can't get any clearer a result than a digital that says "Pregnant." And honestly just bc I get confirmation with a blood test today doesn't mean there won't be a problem tomorrow.

Blood tests are not the norm unless you have a history of losses or see an RE.

True. I have a history of multiple losses, but still did not have early blood tests to confirm this pregnancy. What I found helped were the Clearblue digital tests that give you the weeks after conception estimate. That way, we tracked at home to make sure that my levels were rising at least. Maybe that would make your DH feel more comfortable?

But a pack of wondfo's and keep taking them! I think you can get like 25 for maybe $10-$15 on Amazon and just buy the little cups. Between my BFP and my first blood test (I was working with a RE) I took like 10 of them lol even after my first blood work i was taking them until the second round of blood work just to be sure! Hahaha it's totally normal to want to know wondfo's were my best friend!

blood test to confirm pregnancy
I had spotting before my bfp. I called my OB's service the day I got the bfp (a Saturday, when they were closed- yes, I'm nuts) and they told me it was probably implantation spotting but to come in first thing Monday morning for an hcg and progesterone check. When I went in they gave me several reqs for Quest so I could have them repeated and they would call me and let me know how my numbers were progressing. They didn't seem to bat an eye, and several weeks later, we caught an issue with my progesterone that we were able to address immediately.
I think it's weird they won't just do it. If they don't want to give you an appt they can send you to a lab. No skin off their backs. Even if your insurance didn't pay (I don't see why they wouldn't), what do they care if you get a bill?

Re: blood test to confirm pregnancy
1 blood test will confirm a positive HCG which you already have from your urine test. You would have to have 2 blood tests done at least 48 hours apart to get any substantial info. Not sure how far along you are, but blood tests are typically first done 14-17dpo and then 2 days later because numbers double every 48 hours in early pregnancy. Numbers don't double for more than a couple of weeks before they start to rise slower. I think you might have better luck trying for an early sonogram at this point.
Congratulations and good luck!!

I never even got a BFP on wondfo and even the FRER tests always came up light, even after confirming with a CBE digital. And I have a healthy 2 month old. I'd try not to worry about it!

Thanks - that's really great to hear. I keep reading online that the lines are supposed to get darker, but it's good to know that that isn't necessarily true!

Re: blood test to confirm pregnancy
I took Wondfos every day for at least 3 weeks. The lines didn't really get darker until 7-10 days after my first test. But I wouldn't really recommend doing this as it drove me totally nuts! Try to just relax and enjoy. I know it's hard

yes! seriously, every time i pee (which is really really often) i get scared i will see blood, and every time i have a little twinge or ache in my abdomen (also pretty often) i get worried. even though it feels more like a muscle ache than a cramp and the internet tells me that is normal. does that worry ever go away?!

Never! There's always SOMETHING to worry about- bleeding, cramping, not enough movement, too much movement, it never ends! And now she's born and I worry even more.
ETA: I would drive myself crazy when I wouldn't feel her move as much and I'd do everything I could to get her to move. And when I'd have just about lost my mind and resolved to call my doctor, she'd go on a kicking spree. It was maddening!

And when you have anterior placenta like I did, and you NEVER feel them move, well that's even more maddening!
But as for those feelings in your abdomen, totally normal. It's your uterus stretching. I remember feeling pulling and stretching and it felt like I did a lot of ab workouts or soemthing

Re: blood test to confirm pregnancy
I agree with the others. It never really goes away. But I did start to feel a little better after the 12 week scan and a lot better after I could feel movement. So far everything you've described sounds normal!
