Blood while pumping (sorry tmi)
This morning while I was pumping a tiny bit of blood came out. Is this normal? Should I throw out the milk?

Re: Blood while pumping (sorry tmi)
It's normal and probably happened b/c your nipple is cracked. It's perfect safe to give the baby.
That being said, I never could, because of how it looks (happened to me twice), and I would toss it. But it's okay to give him if you don't want to throw it out
ETA: if you were nursing he would get a bit of the blood anyway, and you wouldn't even know it. To heal the crack faster, let some BM air dry on your nipple and make sure to use lansinoh after every feeding/pumping session.

Re: Blood while pumping (sorry tmi)
i would dump the milk (but i also have absolutely no experience!) i know this sounds silly but if your nipples are dry maybe you have a bit of a crack causing the blood?

jenise, i remember i was at vals during sophies first few weeks and this happened. its ok for them to drink the milk (if he were latched, you wouldnt even know he was consuming it) ... its probably a cracked nipple as a PP said

happened to me once, too.....gave her the milk.....b/c if I hadn't been pumping and feeding her myself, I wouldn't have even known! It is totally safe to give your baby.

i could have written this myself...
make sure also to keep the nipple clean especially when it is cracked.. and sterilize the pump parts more often when you have a crack because i ended up with a nasty case of mastitis by not tended enough to a cracked nipple

Re: Blood while pumping (sorry tmi)
It happened to me alot and I always gave it to them. My sister said that if the baby were nursing and you bled, you'd never see it.

Re: Blood while pumping (sorry tmi)
When I pumped in hospital for my dd, this happened to me once and the lactation consultant said it was fine to give it to her.
