Blowing your nose/coughing at work

If you're sick and you need to blow your nose or cough a lot - do you do it at your desk? Do you go somewhere to the bathroom or kitchen or something?

Just curious. I'm sick and excusing myself to go to the kitchen to blow my nose because someone I work with thinks it's gross. Chat Icon

But we also work with someone who will cough, sneeze, and chew without covering her mouth. Chat Icon

ETA: when I say cough, I mean the really bad wet coughs, like bronchitis coughs. The ones that you know are going to take a while and in the end "produce" something.

I do it at my desk...but I have tissues and I know how to use them. I have a coldy thing now...so I am doing a lot of spluttering and coughing. My colleagues are lucky!!

Re: Blowing your nose/coughing at work

Done at my desk. I am kind enough to keep a tissue in front of my face. But to get up and walk out of my office every time is just excessive.

I walk to the kitchen and do it there because I don't want people to hear that nasty stuff. I cough at my desk because there is no need for me to run everytime I need to cough.

Re: Blowing your nose/coughing at work

I do it at my desk. Granted, I have my own office, but there are secretaries' cubicles right outside my door. They've never complained. Also, I used to share an office. I never thought it was weird or gross for my office mate to blow her nose at her desk. Why should she have to get up and leave the office to blow her nose. I'd rather her do that than sniffle for an hour, get up blow her nose, come back, and 5 mins later start sniffling again.

And I sure don't leave the room to cough!

I do it at my desk as I have tissues. If I had to get up & go to the bathroom or outside everytime, I would not get any work done.

At my desk, with lots of tissues on hand. Right before I leave, I'll wipe down my desk with Lysol.

I blow my nose in the ladies room. It is so freaking loud, I not only don't want to subject my co-workers to it, I don't want to deal with the embarrassment. It's that bad.

I cough at my desk but cover my mouth with tissues.

I do it at my desk, but I also get up an wash my hands afterwards (I don't like hand santizers)

Everyone gets sick, I think your co-worker should be a little more understanding.

I usually go to the bathroom for nose blowing & heavy duty coughs.

I would never go to the kitchen and I don't want to gross out my office mate at my desk (she never said anything but I don't want to make her uncomfortable).

Re: Blowing your nose/coughing at work

I'll do both at my desk, and then run to the bathroom to wash my hands...and then run back to my desk and use some sanitizer...

Everyday, before I sit at my desk, and before I leave for the evening, I wipe my desk down with clorox wipes....

My desk ... I think it's kinda gross to be doing it in the kitchen where people have food Chat Icon I'd use the bathroom instead if it bothered someone enough.
