Blue Cheese Salad Dressing
I know that you are supposed to avoid soft cheeses during pregnancy, but is it okay to have blue cheese dressing? I just did a search and it said that the blue cheese in dressing is pasturized and therefore safe to eat. But I am not sure what to think. Does anyone know for sure? Or, did anyone specifically ask their doctor about blue cheese dressing?

Re: Blue Cheese Salad Dressing
Actually everything I am reading now says that the small amount of actual cheese that is in the salad dressing is pasturized and therefore it's fine! I am still a little nervous though. Maybe i will try my favorite salad with Ranch instead and see how i like it.

Re: Blue Cheese Salad Dressing
I asked the school nurse today and she said it was fine, because the dressing has to be pasteurized.

Re: Blue Cheese Salad Dressing
It is fine...Blue cheese dressing or blue cheese that is manufactured in this country HAS to be pastuerized...As are any of the other soft cheeses that are manufactured here..including feta and mozzarella...Greek Restaurants serve domestic feta...homemade blue cheese dressing will be most likely made from domestic blue...imported would be to expensive...
It is againest the law to manufacture something in the united states that is made from unpastuerized milk or dairy products.

Re: Blue Cheese Salad Dressing
I specifically asked my OB about Blue Cheese Salad Dressing. He said to read the bottle and most likley it would be pasteurized (it would say if it was). But he said not to order it out b/c you don't know what they use and most places use real blue cheese that may not be pasteurized.

Re: Blue Cheese Salad Dressing
I haven't seen any blue cheese dressing that contains unpasteurized cheese. I eat it now and ate it with DD.

DH wont let me eat it. It is my 2nd favorite dressing but I have stayed away from it personally only because blue cheese was on the doctor small "no" list.

Re: Blue Cheese Salad Dressing
It's totally fine. I mean, really, unless you're in some third world country every cheese is pasteurized. I've had TONS of Feta, and actual Blue Cheese during this pregnancy.
