BM-thawing question..so I take milk from fridge or freezer..

how long can it sit out at room temp after taking out of fridge?

Lets say I am running out, I grab a bottle from fridge..do I have to put it in a icepack? or do I get a few hours at room temp?

tia!

Rule of thumb is if it's been used & sitting out for an hour, dump it. There was no way I would waste a full bottle if they just had a little bit. I would refrigerate it immediately but it needed to be used by the next feeding or it was tossed.

Any salivia that gets into the bottle starts to break down the milk. Also if you think about it, you probably wouldnt drink milk that was sitting out for an hour either.Chat Icon

If I understand what you're asking...If you take a fresh bottle out of the fridge and go out you should have a few hours w/o an ice pack b4 you have to toss it. But like Barbara said if the baby drinks from it then it's the one hour rule.

If you take it out of the fridge it will be a while before it's even room temp. So I would say you have between 4-6 hours.

I was told to go by the 666 rule

6 hours room temp
6 days in fridge
6 months in freezer
