Dude! I think it's GREAT that BMX biking is a sport in the olympics. I gotta be honest, while I respect and admire the he*l out of the gymnasts, I am so done with 90% of the prime-time olympics being gymnastics.
Something new and exciting will be a welcome change.

I heard that softball is gone because there is no good competition and the US kicks butt every time. Not sure about baseball but it's probably a similar story. As for BMX, I think it's kind of cool that X Games sports are coming into the Olympics. Look at the winter olympics with all the snowboarding events that started off as X Games sports.

Me too. I love it! Same thing was said about snowboarding a few years ago...
Surfing and skateboarding should be an Olympic sport IMHO.

I think just as baseball/softball is not the most popular sport in Europe, a lot of Americans are not too familiar with handball... growing up in Poland, we had to learn to play it in gym class... once you get into it, it is totally an awesome game...

I don't know about anybody else but growing up in Queens we played handball all the time. I wish i knew it was an Olympic event I could have medaled!!!
My husband told me about a teacher he had who would refer to kids as "handball majors" b/c they played it so much. He pretty much said the same thing as you when he heard it was a sport. Th olympic kind is different though. I had actually learned that kind in gym class in HS--they called it European Handball. It's sort of like basketball, with smaller soccer goals instead of hoops, and all passing, no dribbling. Iahted gym, but I thougth that game was fun.
And I don't see what the problem with BMX is--there are other bike races already in the Olympics.
And forthe record, I love Snowboard Cross--I think it is a great addition to the winter olympics & I wasn't at all familar with it before.

Handball was very popular at my HS, too. Our school shared a fence with a supermarket, so during lunch, a lot of kids would go to the huge supermarket wall and play during lunch (and after school).
