Boarding dilemma-opinions needed
Dh and I moved to GA recently
We are going away to Florida to visit family and we are not able to take out dog. we do not have family or friends here yet so we will have to board him.
We have two options:
1. A HUGE Doggie DayCare center- (boogie went to play there one day this week , to "check it out" He had a good day, came home so tired. It was his first time in that situation)
If you board with this place, the dogs are automatically entered into doggie daycare. I thought this would be good since we will be gone for 4 days. He will be playing in small groups and sleeping in his "zen den" rather than a crate
2. The kennel at the local vet. I just got back from the vet because Boogie had an inflammed eye- I am paranoid about his eyes since a few months ago his left eye came out of orbit....it was extremely painful for him- Well, the vet warned me about kennels that "mix" dogs...he believes that it is asking for trouble...
They take the dog out 3xs a day to go potty- then they are in their crates-large crates, but crates nonetheless. The benefit is that there is a vet on hand in case anything happens...
Which would you choose and why?

What does the daycare do in case of a medical emergency? Is there a vet on-call?

no vet on call , they are trained in basic dog first aid and then if something goes wrong that they cant handle they send them to the emergency vet

hmmmmm. I might have another conversation with your vet then & see what the liklihood is of Boogie having an issue. If it is a strong possibility that the eye problems might return, then I personally would want my pup as close to my vet as possible.
Does the vet walk &/or socialize with the dogs when they are there for Board?

the vet does not socialize the dogs, it is not their belief system...he said , "it asks for trouble when dogs who don't know eachother are in close quarters"
boogie's eye can come out of orbit again, however it is unlikely unless there is trauma. He said he didn't know why it came out of orbit the first time since there was no trauma... it is unlikely...other than this inflammation-which was caused by his hair-and rubbing it-and scratching it with his nails, he has not had problems since June when his eye first came out of orbit.
I feel like I am so torn, I want him to have fun and play and socialize, but then In case of anything I want him at the vet... I dont know what to do

I agree, and it sounds like your vet is kind of conservative in his thinking about socialization.
Is there a way to coordinate with the Day care that your dog be taken to your vet ICO emergency?

That's what I will do... send him to the one with daycare- so he can play- but have everything written up for them in case of an emergency.

UPDATE:
Boogie stayed at Wag-a-lot in Buckhead, Georgia- (where we are living right now) It is the place where they automatically enroll the dog into doggie daycare and they are not left in a crate all day! At first he had a rough time adjusting, I called so many times to check up on him- and I would watch the webcam they have as well... He is home today and he is tired, but doing really well! They are VERY loving there and I am glad that I chose to leave him there rather than in a crate all day long at the other boarding place...

If you are in the Georgia area- there are three wag-a-lots and I would recommend them!
