Body found in Wantagh pond
Body found in Wantagh pond may be missing woman

The body of a woman who was found Tuesday in a Wantagh pond is possibly that of a local resident who went missing last month, Nassau police said.
The discovery was made at 4:45 p.m. at Forest City Park when a resident walking in the park noticed the body floating in the water, police said.
The body was taken to the county's medical examiner's office, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Homicide and Missing Persons Section detectives are investigating whether the body is that of a woman who has reported lost since Nov. 26. There were no immediate details about the woman or the circumstances of her disappearance.
The investigation is ongoing.

i think i remember reading something about a woman who disappeared, i think she had dimensia. I do not think foul play is involved

eta: What is even more weird is that DH and I went jogging on Sunday near there and as I looked at the pond I thought to myself - I wonder if they ever stash dead bodies in there (I know, I'm weird lol!) but then I read this and I"m like

I remember this story. And they found here clothing near the pond last month and I thought they searched the pond. I guess they missed a spot. Poor woman.

I live right down the block from the pond -- and I think like most people who live near here we all know this woman, at least by sight. She always used to ride her bike around the neighborhood at all hours of the day. When I saw the police cars there again on Tuesday afteroon I knew something was up and then a little while later my neighbor called to say that they found her body. The dive team from Nassau and Suffolk was there for 2 days and found nothing!
It is sad--and a little freaky!! I have lived here my whole life and always hung out around there as a kid. One summer me and my friends decided to "clean up" the lake and spent 2 days trying to clean it. We found a couch in there and a ton of garbage bags -- and then we got grossed out and stopped!!
