BOOKED! Anyone ever go on any of the Celebrity Ships?
We just booked our (hopefully) last big vacation for a while on Celebrity Summit for next month out of San Juan. Our itinerary is:
Departs San Juan, PR St. Maarteen Dominca Grenada Bonaire Aruba
I'm super excited, as we've never been to the Caribbean before.
Has anyone been on a Celebrity cruise? How is the ship, food, onboard entertainment, etc?
TIA!

OMG, you're going to LOVE your cruise. I have always preferred Celebrity cruises....and the #1 reason why? THE FOOD!!!! They have the BEST food of any cruise line (in my opinion, of course).
The ships are beautiful. I was just recently on the Summit in June when DH and I went to Alaska. Granted, there's not AS MUCH to do as a Royal Caribbean cruise, but with all of your ports of call, you should be quite busy all week! Check out their website for everything that's including on their ship.
I don't know if you booked a veranda room, but if you guys haven't, and want to splurge, the rooms with a balcony are always wonderful!
Have a great time!

Thank you so much for responding! The Summit was nice then?
We originally were going to book a veranda room (the only rooms available were in Conceirge Class), but then realized, we are going to be in port every single day, so it didn't make sense to us to spend the extra $750 on a room with a balcony, so we just went for the ocean view room. We kicked ourselves last year when we went to Alaska for not booking a room with a balcony, then it would have been worth it since there were quite a few days at sea.

Re: BOOKED! Anyone ever go on any of the Celebrity Ships?
My parents and my aunt and uncle are going on that exact cruise in feb to celebrate my uncle's retirement.
It should be a great cruise - I have been on 13 celebrity cruises and never had a bad one.
Ask away if you have any questions - BTW check out the boards over at http://www.cruisecritic.com they have cruiseline specific areas and you can get great info there.
I have been to all those islands except for Dominica. It should be a great itinerary. We did those same islands on our Princess Cruise on our babymoon in Nov of 2006.
The food is the best of the mass market lines IMO (RCCL, NCL, Carnival, Princess). It is equal to a 5 course meal from a nice catering hall. The service on Celebrity is really good too - ice cold towels when you get back on board in port. The entertainment leaves a bit to be desired but there is plenty to do between the casino and disco, lounges etc you won't be bored.
Are you staying over the night before the cruise in San Juan? The few times I have left from San Juan we stayed at the Intercontinental in San Juan.

Thanks! We're going in February too, 1 month from today to be exact!
We are flying into San Juan the night before. I couldn't get over how expensive the hotels were though Many of them didn't have availability for the Friday night before, but we found a room for a semi-decent price at the Caribe Hilton. I'm glad the boat doesn't depart until 11:00pm, as I'd love to explore San Juan a little

Re: BOOKED! Anyone ever go on any of the Celebrity Ships?
That is soo funny I think that is the same week they are going.... They are usually embarrassed b.c they often get an award for captains club most cruises - they take about 3 a year...
The caribe hilton should be fine - I stayed there with my family about 12 years ago when I cruised with them out of san juan - it was nice. It is high season down there now which is why it is so expensive and hard to find a place to stay - with all the cruises going out at that time the hotels will be packed with people staying a night or two to relax before your cruise.
It is really smart you are going down early the weather is so unpredictable and we lost out on a cruise I think it was 1999 or 2000 when there was a huge snow storm the day or two before New Years and I was going with my family and my father couldn't get out of work early to go down a day early so we were leaving the day of - (the first flight out) and the airport closed while we sat on the runway - needless to say we ended up rescheduling our trip after my mom broke her wrist at the airport - (it pays to have the trip insurance).
FM me and Let me know if you have questions about shore excursions - I love the catamaran and snorkling tours so I might have gone on one you are thinking of.
