BOOKS: Pre-conception, Nutrition, Pregnancy, Infant Care, First Year
I"m not PG yet (going to start TTCing in the summer), I just thought I'd ask the experts....
Can you recommend any good books for Pre-conception, Nutrition, Pregnancy, First Year and Infant Care (feeding, diapers, bathing, etc. - I'm a little scared with the Infant Care part of it. I think its because when growing up my cousins and siblings, well we were all around the same age and I NEVER been around ANY babies to see how things were done and have "Learn-hands-on experience". this is why diagrams would be helpful too.) to read
I have Taking Charge of Your Fertility
How is What to Expect When You're Expecting I've heard its too much information. That it makes you crazy, thinking you have something you don't. Anyone feel like this
TIA.

Try the library & skim through some books before you buy anything. That's what I'm doing

For nutrition, I like, "Eating for a Perfect Pregnancy" by Suzannah Olivier. I only bought "What to Expect when you're Expecting" when I got pregnant and only read what was relevant (reading about each wk as I hit the mark) so I wouldn't get ahead of myself or the pregnancy.

I do not think that the info in What to Expect makes me crazy. It is not all about what can go wrong and it tells you what is normal, so that is reassuring. I sometimes wish that I had picked a shorter book that I would just breeze through in an afternoon, but then I would feel like I don't know enough. What to Expect has enough information that I no longer need to google every little thing!
I bought a child care book but I put it away for a while. I looked at several in the bookstore and picked one.

my doctor said she still thinks What to Expect is the best out there. It is informative but it can make you crazy. One of my good friends is a pediatrician and a mom - she said to take the book lightly. i found "Belly Laughs' to be hysterical - its a fun read

Thanks. I'm sorry, guess I used wrong word. This was just what I've heard and I just wanted to have clarification.

What to Expect definitely has a lot of information, but I'm find it very helpful. Every time something new happens I'm able to look it up. Just about every symptom, problem, question, etc. I've had is in there.

I heard the same exact thing before I got the book. That was one of the reasons I thought I'd post to tell you that I didn't find the book to be that way.

Re: BOOKS: Pre-conception, Nutrition, Pregnancy, Infant Care, First Year
What to Expect does have a lot of info- I planned to read it from cover to cover ASAP, but as I went into a new month, I read the section on that month. The info was easier to manage that way.
I LOVE Baby 411- it has been excellent and the organization makes it really easy to find what you need. Also, The Modern Girl's Guide to Motherhood by Jane Buckingham was a great book. But I really, really recommend Baby 411.

Re: BOOKS: Pre-conception, Nutrition, Pregnancy, Infant Care, First Year
I have and enjoy.....
What to Expect - I have found it very helpful. Yes, it has a lot of information, but I like the way it is broken down.
Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy- a great book. Funny and told from a real perspective
The Baby Book by Dr. Sears- A friend said that this book has saved her many times since having her DD. It is a guide to the first 2 years.
The Sippy Cup is not for Chardonnay- by the same author as Girlfriends Guide
Pregnancy,Birth and the Newborn- tons of information and very helpful in the L&D area.
I have found that most books can make you go a little crazy if you let them. There are varying views on so many areas of pregnancy. You just have to read and inform yourself, but try and stay realistic and listen to your own judgement.
