Books Question
How do you rotate what you read to DC? I read them the same 3 or 4 ABC and animal books every day then a "story book" or two that I rotate.
They say children learn from repition so I was wondering if you think it's better to read the same one book for a week, then rotate, etc., or just change it every day.
I was just curious what everyone did when it came to reading.

I read different ones every night. Well, DS reads most of them to her so he can practice his reading.

Re: Books Question
When Sarah was younger I'd mix it up for myself b/c I was starting to go insane readiing the same ones over and over.
Now one or the other is bringing me books all day long (we have a lot of them) so I'll read whatever they bring me.

Re: Books Question
I used to read the same curious george book to Jared over and over again. He learned so many words from that book. Now I have a BIG book of curious george stories and I don't go crazy with the same story...even though it's in the collection.

Re: Books Question
In the beginning, we read a few books often because they get familiar with the story & they like that familiarity as they understand the story. Then it was whatever they picked out.
Eventually I started to read the story & ask questions about the picture. "Where is the hat?" I almost fell over when Joseph pointed to it. I realized that I was missing a whole part of story time. So we began picking out things in the picture after I read the page.
Next I would point to the hat & ask "What's that?" when they were learning to talk.
Sort of like the way I sang the ABCs & stopped mid-song...the way they were waiting for the next part. You could see your girls were staring intently because they knew something came next. I think it helps them become thinkers.

Re: Books Question
At this point, she says, "Book!" then runs and get the one she wants me to read, so I go with that. I would continue to rotate them when she was little, so everyday she seems to be infatuated with a different one.

Yeah I do that too - and at this point they don't know what the story is so I just make up parts of the story too, and point and talk about parts of the book. Great suggestions, thanks!
Yes you're right - I think they are starting to "know" the alphabet song!
