Borderline Low Platelet Count
So, I just got a "non-urgent" call from my dr.'s office. They told me I passed my Glucose Test (yeah!), but that I have borderline low platelets. They need to test my blood again at my next app't. They told me not to worry (yeah right).
Quite frankly, what I've read online so far has freaked me out. I was wondering if anyone else has had this and what it turned out to be. I appreciate it.

Re: Borderline Low Platelet Count
I think this just means you are anemic. Are you taking iron?

I like your answer much better than WebMD's. I'm not taking iron and I'm a quasi-vegetarian. I hope that's what it is (:insert crossing fingers icon:)!

You should never read WebMD. It's bad for your (mental) health.

Ditto. I would say, being a quasi veggie prego- anemia is more likely than leukemia. Don't worry. Stay away from WebMD.

Re: Borderline Low Platelet Count
Thanks ladies. I really need to block myself from WebMD; I much prefer your collective medical analysis. I hadn't even thought of anemia (b/c I only saw hits for leukemia).

Re: Borderline Low Platelet Count
I have had that problem and it turned out to be something called ITP. It's an autoimmunne disorder that was very treatable. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago. It's the type of thing that comes and goes. They are just monitoring my count closely. I went through the whole leukemia freak out when they first found the low count, but don't look up anything else before you get tested again, it only causes stress and worry.

Re: Borderline Low Platelet Count
I'm pretty sure it's anemia. I just got my results back as well and she specifically mentioned that they tested for anemia as part of the third trimester blood work up. My BFF had anemia (diagnosed from them) and it really was just a matter of taking iron pills.
When's your next appt with them? I go back on the 11th.
