Re: Boston?
I've only been there once, which was a long time ago. But I remember shopping on Newberry Street and they had the coolest stores. Sorry, can't help you out with a hotel, I stayed at my friend's dorm back when she was in college.

Re: Boston?
Mich,
I've been to Boston 15-20 times. I love the city and visit friends up there once a year or every other year. There's a lot of things to do. There's something called the Freedom Trail which is literally a red line. You can follow it all around town and you'll see all the historic sites. For the past couple of times, I've stayed in Revere which is just north of town. It was right by a 'T' station (subway) and we would take that into town. The reason why we didn't stay in Boston is because there are some great little towns on the coast, North of the big city like Marblehead, Rockport and of course Salem. Being that I live towards the east end, we take the Orient Point ferry over to New London and drive up from there. Being that you don't have a car, you could take Amtrak right into South Station and stay in the city. I would recommend staying here:
http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/BOSLW
It's located on the wharf, within walking distance of Quincy market (shopping) and by the aquarium/IMAX theater.
If you like Italian Food, going to the North End is a must! Be sure to go to Mike's Pastries, is a must as well. You walk through it on the Freedom Trail, but here's his web site: http://www.mikespastry.com/
When were you thinking of going?

Re: Boston?
I love Boston. You will have a great time!
One of my favorite things from a vacation EVER was whale watching. We did have to drive a bit north of the city so unless you rent a car it won't be feasible. And if you're prone to sea sickness, of course. We left from a place in Newburyport and it was amazing. We saw so many whales. A few swam up close to the boat. I'd really recommend it, if you are into that sort of thing.

Re: Boston?
As my screen name implies, I live in Boston. The other ladies have given you some great advice already.
Here are some things that I would recommend in the city:
Tours: The Freedom Trail is a great walking tour that brings you past many historic sites including Paul Revere's house. There are also Duck Tours where you can drive around the city and also cruise through the Charles River. This is their website: http://www.bostonducktours.com
Shopping: Newbury Street is a fun/funky shopping area that is just 2 streets away from the Prudential shopping center which is an upscale mall. There is also Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall which also has some great shopping. Harvard Square is also a fun place to walk around. There are lots of street performers, vendors and unique shops there. You can also take alook at Harbard (if you are interested).
Museums: There are a few museums in Boston, but I would recommend the Museum of Fine Arts or the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum.
Eating: If you let me know what type of food you are into, I can recommend some good places.
Feel free to FM me with any questions you have! I hope you have a great time.

Re: Boston?
Boston is awesome....the city is divided up into areas much like NYC. The Boston Public Gardens are beautiful from what I've seen. The architecture is breathtaking. We also visited the aquarium up there. I have friends that live there so I had tour guides. Also, you can go visit Harvard University which is cool.
ETA: You HAVE to eat at ****'s Last Resort.....its a restaurant where the waiters are intentionally rude and it's SO fun. We sat behind a bachelorette party, and they made a hat from butcher paper for the bachelorette that was shaped like a mans' private part!!!!
