Bottled Gas - switching companies

Has anyone ever done this?

We have a tank outside our house, we have been getting it filled up ever since we have moved in. Well, last month they tell us that we have to get the tank replaced - ok whatever.

Well, the guy comes and tells us - he can not replace the tank until we take the air conditioner out of the window, cause it is not within regulations (can't have a AC within 10 ft of a tank). Well, the guy would not tell us if we have anything else against regulations.
They have been coming and filling us up and never said anything about the AC. Also they tell us, since we have a basement window within 5 ft of the tank - we have to seal the window. Not for nothing - it is not living space where the window is, it is a crawl space FILLED with sand. And we have not had the nicest people on the phone to help when we needed things.

So this is why I am asking - has anyone ever changed the company that delivers their bottled gas?
Or if anyone has any info on this type of stuff, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Bottled Gas - switching companies

I have a propane tank, and have basement windows within 5 feet - they've never given me a problem.

We use Ideal Bottled Gas.

I think it depends on the company, we also have a different type of pipe that is now considered 'outdated' and would not be acceptable in new construction. When we were gettign some plumbing quotes for some other things, we asked for a quote to replace this 'outdated type' of pipe. Many asked if the reason we were asking was if the company refused to serve us. The company wasn't refusing us, but we just thought we'd want to replace it with the new higher regulation pipe just in case.
