Bought "ghost plant" from Costco tonight

aka Artemisia 'Silver Mound'. Anyone have this?

External Image

I don't think the way it looks is as striking as the way it feels and smells. It's like petting a bunny! And if you take a sprig off and rub it between your fingers, it's got a mellow eucalyptus smell to it.

Garden Depot had a quart pot for $9.99. I got three 4" pots at Costco for $11.99. From what I understand, it spreads easily but you can give it a haircut in spring and summer to keep it the same size.

I think I'll just repot it into something slightly larger like a 6" pot and put that right in the ground, to make sure it behaves. Apparently, it likes well drained, sandy (crappy) soil. Anything that grows in crappy soil is a worry to me.

Anyone else have this?

Re: Bought "ghost plant" from Costco tonight

Is it a crazy fast spreader? My concern is that it will spread underground and I'll lose control of it. How much bigger is it now than when you got it?

Thanks. Chat Icon

I'm intrigued - maybe I should go get some of them!

Also, I Chat Icon at your message considering it seems that you've been back to Costco already and you just got your membership!

BTW, we got many bushes at Costco - even though it doesnt seem to be the typical place, they are still going strong 3 years later. We also got some geraniums last spring for a really good price, and they lasted ALL year and we got many compliments.

I hope so too! I think I'll sink the pot into the ground first to try it out. Better safe than sorry, right? And if I want to move it out of that area, I just pull the pot up. If not, I remove the pot from the plant, tease the roots, and dump it right back in the hole. Chat Icon

I read if they get a "part" down the middle, you can chop them in half and plant the separate pieces too. Good luck with yours!

I went back for one thing - wrapping paper. And they don't sell it! Chat Icon I left with cookies, ravioli, 2 throw pillows for my new patio chaise lounges ($14 for 2 big pretty striped pillows - good deal!), three pots of plants, shampoo, conditioner, a book, 4 pack of deoderant, 3lb of almonds, and a 3 pack of Pledge.

The bagger guy at the register pulled me aside kept trying to sell me the executive membership. I finally said, "I have to go, so give me back my card now and I'll CONSIDER it." Chat Icon I was trying not to get mean but it's like dude... if you think you're gonna give me the hard sell every time I come in here, ya got another thing comin. Chat Icon
