Boy christening outfit question
what did you put your ds in? Was it a christening gown, or a little pants outfit? My mom gave me a gown that has been passed down for many years. She wore it, 2 of my uncles wore it, my brother, me and some boy & girl cousins and she gave it to me for my ds to wear. Its like a really long dress though and it just doesn't seem like a boy would wear it, but obviously i'm wrong.
Did any of you use a gown? Do you have any pics?

Re: Boy christening outfit question
Lots of people I know put gowns on baby boys for their christening, especially gowns with tradition behind them.
I personally put my boys in white christening suits.

Re: Boy christening outfit question
My SIL put my nephew in a christening gown for the mass and then at the party she changed him into a suit.
I put DS in a Suit. I like suits better for little boys. But there is nothing wrong if you want to use a gown for your little boy, especially one that's been in the family for years. It's totally up to you...

we have a gown in my family too.
DH's family has a tradition of making the outfit out of your wedding dress. So, we decided it we had a girl, we'd use my family's gown and if we had a boy, we'd have my mom make a suit out of my wedding dress.

My sons wore the same gown. It's the only chance they'll ever have to wear one (at least DH hopes so ).

Re: Boy christening outfit question
I don't like gowns for boys personally. I bought a one piece little knicker/shorts outfit for my son.

Re: Boy christening outfit question
I don't have a son, but most likely would have used a gown if I did (I don't know, I like it because it seems so old-fashioned). Most of my friends have sons and used little suits. If I were you, I would use the gown because of your family's tradition, then if you really don't love it, change him after the ceremony.
BTW, Little J Mommy--LOVE that christening outfit!

Re: Boy christening outfit question
DS wore pants and a really long jacket. My sister wanted to get him a gown, which DH and I had no problems with, but she couldn't find one she really liked.

Re: Boy christening outfit question
My son was in a simple white jumper that had a gown over it. It was meant for a boy and was very classic looking which is what I like.
I personally do not like babies in those baby suits/tuxedos...I prefer little babies to be dressed traditionally. But thats just me.

Re: Boy christening outfit question
i think we are going to use the gown for the actual christening and then change him afterwards..I would feel bad breaking the family tradition!
thank you everyone!
